Isn't that pretty much every day as a Pole?

[–][deleted] 55 points56 points ago

No, this is every day as a pole.

[–]cortesoft 19 points20 points ago

If you are going to be a pole, that is the one to be

[–]Rotze 5 points6 points ago

happy Festivus to you sir

[–]mackpack 7 points8 points ago

I honestly expected this to be a picture of a car thief.

[–]SanguisPura 3 points4 points ago

And this is life as a member of the Polish expatriate community in Australia, since no-one ever gets tired of Australia jokes.

[–]Sprewell15 0 points1 point ago

i think every day as that particular pole is a lot different.

[–]ldunn 0 points1 point ago

That is one fine pole.

[–]xebo -1 points0 points ago

Can someone explain the reference?

[–]meliaesc 15 points16 points ago

History. World Wars. Etc.

[–]shiftyskies 9 points10 points ago

Poland sits directly between germany and russia and has been the battleground spot in many disputes, such as...oh, WWII. Always getting picked on while the big dogs go at it.

[–]violetjoker 8 points9 points ago

Whenever there is a chance Germany or Russia invade Poland.

[–]MonsieurA 32 points33 points ago

Excuse me - I'd just like to point out that the correct noun for "person from France" is not "French" but rather "Frenchie". ("Frog" is also acceptable. In British English, "one of the damn French" has long been an acceptable synonym.)

Gratz dude Meanwhile, I'm an American and I'm used to being called an asshole all over that front page!

[–]gosslot 9 points10 points ago

Do you get exited if there is a post about something about America?

I just imagined someone sitting in front of his computer clapping like a mad man about all the posts that mention the US.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

no, its the internet. The only thing that excites people that much is new music, new porn, and....surely something else

[–]neo1513 5 points6 points ago

So the thing about being American on the internet, is that you don't feel any different, in that you assume everyone else is American and it is the norm. I think the phrase that extends over to this use is "hetero normative". I think that everyone on the internet is a 18-35 year old white, american, male.

So stories about America aren't special, hell I feel like stories about Canada are more special because theyre just like us americans except nicer and more peaceful

[–]itscoldout 3 points4 points ago

At least you get noticed :(

[–]Eat_a_Bullet 2 points3 points ago

Yeah, but a lot of time it's like getting noticed because your dad is a heroin dealer.

"Hey guys, look at this new great invention or idea or piece of art from America! No wait, don't focus on what that stupid bigot is saying, he's an idiot! Stop looking at our new KFC menu items! SHUT UP RICK SANTORUM!!"

[–]itscoldout 1 point2 points ago

Do you get a family discount?

[–]Eat_a_Bullet 1 point2 points ago

I will plead the fifth amendment, and decline to answer any questions that might force me to incriminate myself.

Ha! Take that, non-Americans!

I'm French and I can never say I feel enthusiastic when posts about France make it to fornt page. I'm usually like "Oh oh what again, what are they making fun of us for again?"

[–]violetjoker 27 points28 points ago

Austria, we only make the front page if some girl is hold in a cellar for years.

[–]KarmaIsForPussies 18 points19 points ago

I'm pretty sure you're thinking about Australia. Common mistake...

[–]Horkersaurus 8 points9 points ago

In Australia that'd be protecting her from the deadly fauna.

[–]92648 3 points4 points ago

Does that story still play in the news?

[–]violetjoker 7 points8 points ago

There where two stories.

But yeah Kampusch is still in the news every now and then at least she tries to be there, the public opinion of her changed quite a lot because she tries to exploit what happened to a point where it's just annoying.

[–]LuridTeaParty 1 point2 points ago

Im a bit daft on names, but is that the older girl's name? Also how has she been exploiting her situation? I imagined shed just stay at a psych ward for a while and then try to live a quiet life.

[–]violetjoker 2 points3 points ago

Well the older incident, the second was locked away over a longer time and involved incest and as far as I know she and her kids are in psych ward.

Kampusch on the other hand became a TV hostess after receiving millions in donations. Then released a book and so on.

[–]LuridTeaParty 0 points1 point ago

Oh okay. I was thinking Kampusch was related to the Fritzel case.

[–]violetjoker 1 point2 points ago

No Kampusch was 2006.

Seriously you have nothing on America, at this point all we can hope is that we can claim that it happened in another state. "Don't be Texas, don't be Texas. Dang it of course it is Texas where a kindergartener takes a gun to school and shoots himself."

[–]Nowhere_Man_Forever 23 points24 points ago

I think every southerner feels that way about their state. It always seems to be tennessee.

[–]JonRivers 7 points8 points ago

In Arkansas we just hope to go unnoticed for the most part. At least we have Clinton.

[–]Joff_Baratheon 3 points4 points ago

I'm from Oklahoma and we all think you fuck your cousins. Can you confirm this?

[–]MinnesotaBlizzard 11 points12 points ago

I am Minnesotan and I have no idea where I am now

[–]Joff_Baratheon 1 point2 points ago

You're in Frothyland!

[–]cyberratt 2 points3 points ago

We have a joke that all the trees in Arkansas lean west because Oklahoma sucks. I'll trade you confirmations/denials.

[–]Zigtastic 2 points3 points ago

Nope, just your cousin.

[–]JonRivers 1 point2 points ago

I can neither confirm nor deny that.

[–]colorific 1 point2 points ago

Every time I see Arkansas in the national news, I cringe. It's never positive.

[–]I_Regret_This_Post 28 points29 points ago

Try being Idaho, where every post is either about potatoes or disputing its actual existence

Edit: after some careful though, nevermind. Idaho isn't a utopia but at least it isn't Tennessee.

[–]gosslot 6 points7 points ago

Potatoes vs. Whisky...are you regreting your post yet?

[–]iamesauce 3 points4 points ago

He regrets that post.

[–]Kostanzer 10 points11 points ago

Tennessee isn't a utopia either, but at least it isn't Idaho.

[–]I_Regret_This_Post 4 points5 points ago

Lets just say we both suck and call it good

[–]Kostanzer 6 points7 points ago

Agreed. At least we aren't Utah, right?

[–]alostcause 1 point2 points ago

As someone not from either one of those states, I'm going to let you know that I think Idaho is better than Tennessee (don't tell Kostanzer). I actually have enjoyed time in Idaho before.

[–]pakiman47 2 points3 points ago

which state did you say you were from again?

Good news for France. Alone, among G-8 nations, the Gini coefficient of France has declined over the last 30 years.

Everywhere else inequality is getting worse, but not in France.

To me, that's admirable.

Don't worry, the people making fun of France are morons and don't know about your wine cheese or working healthcare system.

[–]yumagamo 14 points15 points ago

I'm Japanese and when I see a post about my home country on the front page, 50% of the time I can see how it can sound weird to Westerners. And 50% of the time I don't get why you find it ridiculous or why it's even on Reddit.

[–]Vercingetorixxx 1 point2 points ago

We don't understand how such pretty girls can be talked into degrading themselves. In western porn it is not as extreme and the girls arent as attractive.

[–]TheCrownedWolf 0 points1 point ago

And 50% of the time I don't get why you find it ridiculous or why it's even on Reddit.

Care to share some examples? I'm curious to know what we're weirded out by that you find normal.

[–]ssshield 20 points21 points ago

You're like the rich Uncle who keeps his distance. You visit every now and again, showing off your fancy BMW, and boy do we want that sweet ride, but we are blind to your deep self loathing and lack of fun in your busy life. While we slum it out with our friends and wacky social life, we yearn for your money, but you do the same with us. Yearning for that young spark you once had...

[–]Rhabarberbarbara 1 point2 points ago

so, when was that?

[–]CountVonTroll 0 points1 point ago

I don't know off-hand, but I agree with your suggestion that we should attempt to determine the exact date.
Maybe we should identify a list of parameters we're looking for first, and agree on their respective weighting in the "young spark" value for a given day?

Let's try to find more volunteers, then set up an online meeting to determine the organizational structure for this research effort, ideally by Sunday. This sounds like it will be a lot of fun, actually.

[–]Rhabarberbarbara 1 point2 points ago

Germany!!! Yawn, Yeah!

Isn't it relatively easy for you to jet over there for a weekend? Sincerely, a jealous Yank.

[–]CptHaddock 19 points20 points ago

Yeah, but they don't just let you stick bits of their strong manufacturing base into your suitcase for the flight back.

About 100 litres of beer for personal consumption though.

[–]diulei 6 points7 points ago

I was just talking to someone about this from Sweden, since apparently Swedes go to Denmark/Germany a lot to buy booze (100L as well in Denmark). How exactly does one carry 100L of beer back? Even if you bring a friend or two (assuming they don't want their own 100L), it's a lot of liquid, especially if you're flying.

[–]CptHaddock 2 points3 points ago

Well, it was a joke really. This does exist though, Brits go to France actually, it's a Booze Cruise in that case and you wouldn't fly, you'd drive. You could fly with cigarettes but that's just a fringe benefit to a holiday for most people that would do that.

[–]diulei 1 point2 points ago

Hrm... well... I suppose I take my "buying booze in foreign lands" a bit seriously...

[–]SoundxProof 2 points3 points ago

Well, I would wager a journey by car might be slightly more common in this instance.

[–]diulei 1 point2 points ago

Probably, but he mentioned that they take a bus to the ferry, then across the water to Denmark and back.

Aha! Found it. Granted, it's only one person's posting so it's not exactly a rule or anything.

[–]oerich 1 point2 points ago

I lived in Sweden but very close to Denmark. I used to take the fairy from Helsingborg to Elsinore many times a year. Let me tell you, it was absolutely crazy. If they did not take their car to Elsinore by ferry, they usually parked it in Helsingborg because its cheaper that way. So on your way back to Sweden, there are tons of Swedes with sack barrows with several cases of beer stacked on top of each other. I always wondered what size of a vehicle they must have had parked in Helsingborg. You'd see families of four with their children over 18, all with cases stacked high on their trolleys. I guess if you don't go over so often as my family did, you got a make it worthwhile because it significantly cheaper in Denmark. I'm sure some of them even went beyond the acceptable amount because there's usually no one checking up on this, at least when I was living there. Elsinore is awesome. There is an overproportional amount of beer stores in the city because they cater to all the Swedish tourists and it smells like empty cans of Tuborg Green everywhere. Man, I miss it there...

Nah, I think Germany is the better country at the moment to be honest. Your economy is great, you still make loads of high quality stuff. Great education, great trains, great cars, great music, great beer. You have a budget surplus. It's all good for you guys. Oh, and you bastards always beat us at football.

I like the UK for more personal reasons. I've been having a crush for a british girl for 4 years, your accent can be fuckin hot. And not being a native speaker sucks when everything in TV and cinema is english. I've never been to London and Scotland seems to be amazingly beautiful. Also Dr. Who and Ricky Gervais.

As music a little bit similar to Kraftwerk, I suggest the not so well known "Welle Erdball":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWAGvFGl6T8

More crazy, more fun, less minimal.

Well, except for their song "Monoton und Minimal". Thats quite minimal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXkxixWZU3A

[–]cuntunderground 0 points1 point ago

I'll never forget singing that one in the Kneipes!

This one is also one of my favorites!

[–]silvester23 1 point2 points ago

Great music may be slightly exaggerated I think. Especially compared to British music. And especially recently.

[–]Quantenhorst 0 points1 point ago

Funny you should say that, people here always complain about the trains and the education.

[–]derraidor 2 points3 points ago

people here complain about everything.

[–]Quantenhorst 1 point2 points ago

Most people also complain about the amount of complaining going on here. Is it safe to pull an Inception-joke there?

[–]drekthar 2 points3 points ago

I'm British and I often envy Germans, I guess it really is a "grass is greener" scenario. The few times I've been to Germany have been totally awesome though.

[–]diulei 1 point2 points ago

Grass is greener syndrome is pretty common for everyone. But if you take a look at the numbers/statistics regarding Germany's economy right now... well those are hard to dispute along with being "so awesome".

BMW, Mercedes Benz, Audi, VW, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, etc.

Thank you for the sublime M, the poise of RS, the insanity of AMG and all the rest.

BMW

As a German, let me correct you: BMW isn't made in Germany, it's from Bavaria, a separatist quasi-independent state to the south of Germany. They're wearing Lederhosen, so it should be easy to tell us apart.

I'm an american whose ancestors came for Germany ( as well as Holland ). I've always been very proud of Germany and am even more so today. My mother was born here and she was fluent in German when she was young but her Grandmother who came to america when she was 16 years old discouraged her from speaking the language because she felt strongly that in america you should speak English.

In Queens ( a part of NYC ) the area known as Glendale had a very big German population and there are still some fantastic German restaurants there that make great sauerbraten with potato balls and red cabbage.

It's great to hear from a German.

Best give-away you're not German.

I have no idea who that guy in the clip is, but after less than 10 seconds, I do feel the weirdest urge to punch him very hard in the face. Coming from a pacifist.

If you want to punch people in the face, you're not a fucking pacifist.

I've always wanted to live in germany (I'm an American with a german family and I can speak fluent German). These threads make me even more anxious

Like an obnoxious, unfunny camera whore?

[–]Depressed_Downvoter 0 points1 point ago

I took German a few years ago for a semester. I liked it. I did not like how an object could have a billion words for "the". I would take it again.

[–]distractthepaladin 0 points1 point ago

It's good to feel special.

JAKE AND AMIR !

[–]talituna 0 points1 point ago

I find this ironic because Amir is Jewish.
