Beware of trading scammers!

A subreddit for anything related to games (but not sports).

"Related" means that posts must contain gaming-related content in the link/post body, not just a "forced" connection via the title or a caption added to the content.

Posting Rules

  • Posts must be directly gaming-related. Thus, "generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission; similarly, reaction GIFs are also not appropriate as submissions.

  • Following Reddiquette is encouraged

  • No "general" URL shorteners (bitly, tinyurl, etc). Single-site URL shorteners (such as youtu.be or fav.me) are allowed.

  • No game or product giveaway of any kind

  • NSFW submissions and comments must be labeled

  • Spoilers can be posted using the following formatting:
    [X Kills Y](/spoiler)
    Result: X Kills Y.

  • To mark a spoiler as relevant to a specific game/topic, use the alternate formatting:
    [Player 1 wins](/spoiler "Pong")
    Result:
    Player 1 wins

  • Report posts containing spoilers not using the above method

  • Don't post users' personal information.

Submission Rules

Is your post not showing up? Do not delete it. Wait 5 minutes to give AutoModerator a chance to look at it; it approves most submissions automatically. If it hasn't shown up after more than 5 minutes, simply message the moderators and ask us to let it through.

I had no idea either. But, I have to say, great pic and great chart.

I never understood the scaling on this. Look at a street width in Burnout Paradise and compare that to San Andreas. The street is as big as a San Andreas city block! How is this a one-to-one comparison?

Exactly what I was thinking. Its very difficult to accurately compare games that use different engines.

This works on how many pixels across the game world is I believe, most games do have a set measurement of what 1inx1in is in the development tools

That is why I loved Just Cause 2.. There was a crazy sized map with enough to do/find in it, so it never felt like I was done the game.

It'd be awesome if this was posted every week in r/gaming...

oh come on. I dont like how the guild wars combined map is "that" large, because most of it is not even visible ingame and it has very repetitive texturing. Also, NO, one city hub in Nicgtfall is NEVER as large as shown compared to JustCause 2, here, making this just inaccurate.

Just cause 2 has a good compromise between huge landscape and local detail, with not too repetitive buildings.

eve is just empty space.

Now that's just cheating!

but it does bring up a good point. The distances really have little to do with the scale of a world.

That's awesome! I wonder how skyrim fits on that! I suppose some of the largeness feel in San Andreas comes from forms of transport and the time they take. Remember being stuck in the countryside for like 5 hours. Brutal.

I once sar a LP of TES, Arena, where the player traveled from one city of skyrim to another city of skyrim. Back then it just calculated a Traveling time for you. That time was almost a Day and the world lacked a lot of detail but, it is still pretty accurate compared to TESV Skyrim (given the usual distractions), if you just take ingame-time.

the TES series has some very accurate scaling trough all its games.

That's a pretty old picture. The game world for WoW is much bigger if you include Outland and Northrend.

yeah it's something like a couple of years old, but still puts a lot of things into perspective.

It'd be interesting to see where newer games like Skyrim fit on there.

Skyrim is roughly the same size as Oblivion.

[–]AverageToaster 0 points1 point ago

Daggerfall is most likely bigger.

[–]kayne_21 1 point2 points ago

Daggerfall was listed in text in the bottom right corner of the graphic at 62k miles across.

I wonder how the new GTA 5's map size would fare against this?
