Christians believe it was made in one day. Atheist believe it was formed over billions of years through evolution, erosion and other things that actually exist ಠ_ಠ

I just can't seem to get how they can say that the big bang theory is completely illogical yet can believe that some invisible man that has no proof of existing besides some old book that some dude wrote just created everything just for us on Earth.

Sheeple man. Sheeple. They follow the herd. The herd says X, they do X.

Hundreds of years from now, if we discover Big Bang Theory is completely wrong and a new thing is right, sheeple will still cling to BBT.

(This might have been inspired by today's XKCD )

  • EDIT: I forgot to close my parenthesis. I can't stand that.

"BUT IT DID. ONE DAY BY CHANCE GOD DECIDED TO CREATE IT."

I love how creationists cancel out their own arguments.

I don't think they would say it was by chance....

Its god's will. He didn't just decide to do it. He planned it. And he didn't just so happen to plan it, he PLANNED on planning it.

GOD'S WILL

Also, I love how creationists like to say that God is so obvious in places like Yosemite and how could anybody doubt God exists when there are places like Niagara Falls, and the Athabasca glacier, and emerald lake, and butchart gardens, and the grand canyon...

And that's cool, because those are all awe inspiring places. But then I'd like to know exactly wtf god was thinking when he made north dakota, new mexico, and nevada. I would accept an 8 day week if it meant a little love in the other 95% of the world where we aren't enshrining natural parks, or a little bit more land in general...

who exactly intelligently designs a terrarium and then puts an aquarium in 70% of it? "okay, we(I) make humans with souls... most important creature we(I) make is humans... we(I) make 70% of your world incompatible with you. Love us(me)."

[–]gushe -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I think its funny how you assume any creationist would REALLY assume that God created e.g niagara falls just the way they are.

I mean IF you were a christian who believes in evolution, or if you were not , neither way you would have to assume world went through a massive change by evolution or earth-wide flooding which would both take extreme measures to change the way the earth is formed today compared to what it was when intelligent being ( God) formed the globe.

I dont see any contradiction with the thought of complexity of life (beautiful views, nature which we all as human feel awe towards to (no matter if you are atheist or a christian, or buddhist) ), and making an argument from there that God actually does exist.

[–]StartlingCat 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Not if you are a Christian which thinks the flood part of the bible was allegorical!

By that logic, walking into slums in India would make that same person stop believing in God.

[–]Mattizzle 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

NOT one day. That's the point. It took a long fucking time for things to happen. That's the thing that pisses me off more than anything else when talking to someone that can't grasp evolution. They can't grasp the idea of millions and billions of years, that's a lot of years for little changes to happen.

[–]FTFTW 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Exactly, it never "just happened." An immeasurable amount of things happened over billions of years that gradually led to what we see before us today. There are a couple big events we can point to in some cases, like glaciers carving out areas in Yosemite and then melting away, but even those things took millions of years to happen. The life that exists in that photo is a little different than it was a million years ago, and way different than it was several million years ago because of a gradual change in the genetic makeup that happened to meet the ever changing habitat and allowed each lineage to successfully evolve. And, as each form of life changes, each part of the ecosystem may need to change slightly to until it balances again.

Even if a volcano erupted and destroyed all the life that exists there, it still would have not "just happened." It would have been the work of millions of years of volcanic movement beneath the surface, on top of all the billions of years of things that happened before that.

I think the biggest issue is creationists hold so tightly to the idea that god created everything suddenly and in its entirety that when we start to talk about geology and evolution they just hear us saying it happened suddenly for no reason. Yes, we might be saying that everything happened without a reason in regards to lacking an intended purpose, but we aren't saying there wasn't a reason. The reason was billions of years of things that led up to that moment. Nothing sudden about any of it.

As far as the big bang stuff is concerned, we aren't saying it happened suddenly for no reason, either, we are just saying we don't know what led up to it since we can't see before or outside of our universe.

Sorry for preaching to the choir on this, but I wanted to type out my irritation.

[–]Mattizzle 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Well said, I'd like to add that they can't fathom the idea of randomness. Random genetic mutations happening over millions of years can lead to some strange things. I tried to explain the Infinite Monkey Theorem to a religious friend of mine and she could never grasp the idea that given enough time some crazy things can happen.

Sorry but:

Unless the Stoney Natoka Indians made it? Check the second paragraph.

[–]meredrica 1 point2 points ago

ok, thx for telling me that :) i was not the creator of the jpg. teaches me a lesson for checking my damn sources beforehand.

[–]ok_you_win 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

No problem. I didnt know myself until I double checked with google.

I've been to Lake Louise Alberta, and its just not the sort of place you can easily make a lake. Any place appropriate probably has a lake already, and you'd need to build a dam to enlarge it.

So I figured there had to be a second Lake Louise somewhere...

Hivemind hates when you tell them that they're being hivemind by upvoting an ancient might I add, repost. Nobody likes being called part of hivemind, but I'm damn sure /r/atheism is the very definition of it.

The world could've ended up in a billion of ways. All those countless small things that formed that sight and this world could've gone differently. No matter what would've happened we'd still have people telling that this is how things are meant to be. Christians tend to see only the outcome. They look at something and think that it should be like that. Other people (me included) look at that view and see details and think how it was formed and wonder what process formed it and would it be as beautiful if it had happened differently.
