After having gone through chemo and radiation myself, I can tell you it's going to suck, there's no getting around it. Afterwards however, i've never gotten laid so much in my life. Embrace it my friend, and best of luck.

Well, the upside of Chemo is then pity sex and no need for a condom..

PS I'm not trying to be mean. Two people very close to me have had cancer in the past 2 year.

probably some sympathy, but you get a weird confidence after overcoming something like cancer. Girls seemed naturally interested in it which made it much easier to talk to them. plus when they rub your head it's game over.

I'd like to add that when you feel like crying, and you will, don't try to hold it in. I tried that at first but after breaking down eventually I realized it's a good thing. There is nothing wrong with having a good cry sometimes. Just try to always know where your head is at, mindful meditation or something similar could be a great help with this. I know it allowed me confront some of the emotions I had (and still have) and deal with them in a way that is not detrimental to me, my family, or my friends.

Also you will probably lose some friends over this, every cancer patient I know has at some point. Some people just can't/won't handle it.

At least he's able to laugh about his problem. Happiness is one of the key elements to surviving cancer, that and age. I hope the best for you my friend, just keep your chin up and don't lose hope.

[–]EukaryoteZ 7 points8 points ago

I was dealing with some autoimmune issues which required some chemotherapy. The doses I was receiving though were minuscule compared to what a cancer patient would get, and being there really drove home the realization that things could be a hell of a lot worse. Being sick is hard, attitude makes a huge difference.

i just finished my chemo. my advice to you is keep a journal on chemo days. it will surprise you how bad the amnesia like symptoms can be. you wont even know till you go back and read stuff you wrote and have no memory of even writing it down. also keep water by your bed at all times. there may be days when you just cant get out of bed but you got to stay hydrated. best of luck to you man.

As someone who has gone through an orchiectomy I can explain. It's an operation to remove your testicle. They make a small incision horizontally across your abdomen, pull your ball up and out by the cord, then cut/seal said cord. BAM! Your down a ball and down a tumour! What you are seeing is the scar left by the incision. (medical diagram if you're wondering)

Mine's about 1 3/4 inches long. It heals pretty quick (~2 weeks and I was more or less fine). however, based on it's location I found out very quickly that the pain of the incision gave me was directly proportional to how full my bladder was. Empty bladder= walk around like a boss, full bladder= OH GOD! Someone help me the 6 feet to the bathroom!

[–]kojak488 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I could feel my balls riding up as I read about them being pulled up. ಠ_ಠ

[–]GuidedKamikaze 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Generally the Orchiectomy is performed by cutting into the area between the thigh and midsection about 2 inches above the genitals, and the scar sits very near where the thigh and lower abdomen meet. It is usually covered up by pubic hair but I assume it's shaved in that photo.

[–]DancesWithDownvotes[S] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The third one I think is the groin area. I don't want to click it while I'm at work. Basically the scar runs from upper left to lower right, and the dark spot you see in the middle is where the incision opened and is still draining/bleeding some. I'm a bigger boy so it doesn't really look...normal. Sorry for that.

I had testicular cancer a while back, I was always just really thankful that it is so easy to cure compared to most cancers. Nothing broke my heart more then to see a bunch of kids with leukemia and other almost certainly fatal cancers when I got off so lucky. I can't speak to your situation but your probably better off then most of the people you will meet while getting treated and it never ceased to make me feel like shit. Best of luck.

[–]publicVoidScrotum 8 points9 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I also had metastatic testicular cancer and had to go through chemotherapy until last month. Luckily, I only had metastases in the lungs and lymph nodes, your situation looks a bit worse, I guess. But then again, there's an over 80% cure rate even in the worst cases, so don't worry. But I guess your doctor already told you.

Last Friday was my first CT scan after chemo. I got rid of it :) chemo sucks, but it's bearable and you get through it. And it works.

[–]Legit_GFX 7 points8 points ago

It is probably somewhere around his testicle. An Orchiectomy is when you get a testicle removed.

[–]shoobshab 6 points7 points ago

Still haven't quite figured out where it is.

Jeez man! My Scars aren't that big! Punch your surgeon for me!

[–]Replekia 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Perhaps his needed to be larger to remove the testicle. They can get pretty large when the tumour is developed enough, and it seems that the cancer may have spread (hence the need for chemo) so it was likely fairly late stage when they caught it.

Hey there. As a four round chemo survivor now in remission I wanted to wish you the best of luck and pass along some great advice that a fellow redditor gave me when I started my ordeal. me8myself's tips (which I've annotated) helped me get through it and maybe they will be of some help for you. Course these are mostly inpatient stuff, but they may be helpful even if you aren't spending all your time in a hospital room.

Always complement your Nurse's/Doctors. Every time they come in do anything, complement them, or thank them. If they're hanging something or doing something in the room that doesn't take much concentration try to have a conversation with them Anything to try and get them to be your buddy. I found the one you made a friendship with would show up more and come when you really needed them, as opposed to those who took a disliking to you.

Seriously, getting in good with the nurses is the best thing you can do.

Always have treats in your room, not for you but for the people who come in (nurses, doctor, visitors) so you can offer them. Again because they are more inclined to show up. Maybe on their break they might come in for a conversation, and that helps to keep you occupied which is good.

I kept mini candy bars in my emesis bowl (vomit bowl), it was amusing and tasty.

You'll have lots of problems in the room, some you can solve yourself. You don't want to be the person constantly ringing the bell, it kinda becomes a boy who cries wolf situation if you are.

You're going to be in there for about a while, try and get people in your room daily (friends and family).

But make sure they come when you want them, not when they want to.

Bring your own salt and pepper... hospital food doesn't taste that great.

Really, if you can, get food from outside as much as possible. If you are neutropenic (restricted diet) home cooking will be a life saver.

Don't be afraid to ask for pain meds.

Seriously. You've got the port, use it. There is literally no reason you should be more uncomfortable then chemo and cancer are already making you.

Leave your self respect at the door. You'll have to do stuff for the betterment of your health that you probably wont want to talk about.

Hope you don't mind the wall of text, and again, good luck and well wishes.

Everything he said rings true, but this especially. I know there are stigmas attached to painkillers but a shot of dilaudid into your central line can turn even the worst day around temporarily. Especially if you are on vincristine, neuropathy is a bitch

Before you read 1000 horror stories all over the internet, bear in mind that there are hundreds of different chemo and treatment regimes. Not all of them make your hair fall out/vomit etc etc. Many people have cancer treatment - whether it be chemotherapy, radiotherapy or otherwise with no adverse effects whatsoever.

What kind of cancer it it? And another thing, this is going to be a hard __ months. My friend who had cancer said the worst part wasn't the chemotherapy, it was the depression. If it is any comfort to you at all I would like to say that the medications they will give you for any nausea or discomfort will be the best and they will strive to make you as comfortable as possible. When you go to treatment make sure you take goodies for yourself like gaming or music devices or books or whatever makes happy when you are wasting time. :) Keep us updated on your progress.

I just finished a round of chemo 7 weeks ago. I don't have a lot of inspiring stories for you, just want you to know you can get through it. Gut it out, deal with it like a big boy/girl and try to retain a sense of humor. Remember, on your bad days, and you will have bad days, try to remember your friends and family are stressed too. Try not to take it out on them, and you'll know what I mean soon.

If I can help, PM me. I got through it, maintained some dignity and a sense of humor. It's not a lot of fun, but I wish you the best and am sure you are the kind of person who can deal.

Nothing but the best to you my friend....and let me know if I can help

http://fuckyeahcouragewolf.tumblr.com/post/150433390/the-doctor-said-it-was-cancer-i-call-it-a

Courage Wolf is an interesting idea - partly it is clearly ironic. But the wolf's attitude is clearly motivating. It's like a sociopathic guardian spirit for people who've spent too much time on the internet to take the idea of guardian spirits completely seriously.

Wild animals probably don't survive long enough to get diseases like cancer of course, they die of disease or hunger long before it becomes a possibility. Which is something to think about. We're all operating way past the maximum design life evolution was aiming for.

My thoughts go out to you my friend! I found out I had brain cancer last October, but after chemo and radiation it looks like I'll make it to the other side. I'm sending all my good vibrations your way. And as for chemo, a little THC can, literally, work miracles. Stay strong, stay positive.

CML (leukemia) here.. No matter how bad it gets, if you can keep a sense of humor about things coupled with lots of hope, you will do awesome. Chemotherapy IS terrible, but there are lots of good anti nausea meds out there, and make sure to keep your doctor informed of all your symptoms.

My husband took me to see 50/50 while I was right at the height of my illness, and it was so good. I recommend it! I won't lie, having a great support system in your life is important. Feel free to keep my username, and I'll send you my email address if you like. I'm a good listener, and I might even have some advice you can use :)

I am a breast cancer survivor. I had 16 months of chemo and 2 surgeries. Seek out a good caregiver (my husband for me) for the first couple days after each round - makes a world of difference. And bring fun things to do during the infusions: games, art, interesting gifts for your nurses. Good luck and keep positive.

I just finished a year of chemotherapy about 4 months ago. I'm not sure what your type staging is, but either way it's really going to suck. You're going to want to just sleep an not wake up sometimes, but if you keep the attitude you have now you'll be just fine. The mental battle is just as important as the physical one in my opinion.

If you ever need to talk about anything, shoot me a message. I can hopefully help you out with advice and or tips about various drugs and therapies, I've had quite the array.

Keep calm and carry on, no matter what.

And fuck cancer.

[–]EntWarwick 0 points1 point ago

Try not to eat your favorite foods during and shortly after chemo rounds until you know how you'll react to it. I had some of my favorite foods ruined by doing this, and it took years before I wanted to eat them again.

That sucks man! I currently have a large tumor in my intestine area and spent a year of some heavy chemo (they cant remove it or do radiation on it) and it shrunk a bit but then stopped working - but 6 months off of it, it has even shrunk a little :) I kind of feel left out of the whole crappy chemo experience - All that happened to me (on adriamycin and DTIC) was I lost my hair, and felt very mildly nauseus for a couple days after the end of my week-a-month chemo. Heres hopin you're lucky with that too!
