Everyone knows this is a Song of Fire and Ice reference, right?

Yes, I follow the tumblr where it was first made and posted, and it was explained in the tags. Every now and then it explodes in a storm of reblogs from people who think it was actually on Maury.

Heads up to everyone reading the books. That downvoted comment down there by Ragnrok contains a pretty big Storm of Swords spoiler.

I've seen this posted before but never any sauce or content that followed.

I've only been here for 3 months and i swear I've seen this at least 10 times, and nope, no source is ever quoted.

That's because the source is Photoshop, and as someone else pointed out, it's a reference to A Song of Ice and Fire.

Here's the origin. A shop job by 'Rhaegarfrey.'

As a graphic designer, the tracking on the paragraph is what I find most appalling.

Yes, but normally I just consider this a successful Friday night, and don't make a big deal about it.

I find it funny that r/atheism post it to. Man what will they do just vent about religion.

[–]cajunbander 0 points1 point ago

I've learned that r/atheism is just a big circlejerk.

FACT: Every single atheist I've met in real life was pretty cool, and didn't have a problem with me being a Christian.

My best friend is atheist and we are pretty cool about it. Sometimes, we play with it but we leave it as it is.

Why Is The First Letter Of Each Word Capitalised?

[–]Grumpy_Kong -4 points-3 points ago

And just like most of the stuff posted in /r/atheism, it's satire that many atheists will argue till they are out of breath that it is actually an average example of theist behavior.

Actually, it is a reference to A Song of Ice and Fire, where in the third book some people fuck in a sept where their dead child was rotting.

[–]Mantisbog 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

wait, when did that happen?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Actually, a cultural reference doesn't invalidate the fact that it is still satire, and by checking the thread in /r/atheism, I see that there are people there who are unsure that it is untrue.

Both of my points are valid, regardless of the mediocre fantasy novel it references.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

I disagree, I think the novels are great.

I'm sure you do, and that's fine. I would rather you read SOIAF than nothing.

And there is notable interpersonal conflict and character growth, but quite a bit is written purely for shock value, there is (as far as I got, which I admit was only three quarters the way through the second book) no one that can actually be considered a 'hero', and while the entirety of the apparently cursed House Stark fills this role, other than embarassment for their various deaths and/or betrayals at the hands of their once allies, only in the tragic sense.

As of yet, there are none of the classic themes of honor (excepting where it is considered a weakness to be used as a lever by borderline sociopaths), nobility (which is employed in almost a satire fashion by the Lannisters, and even Tyrion, arguably one of the most noble character is only such because of the pettiness, cruelty, or despair of all of his peers.

Additionally, authors writing style leaves a lot to be desired as far as descriptive content, or pacing. There were so many times during my readthrough that I had to stop, and go back and re-read the last page because I realized I had skimmed through it, not absorbing a word.

And before you try and say that this is due to the complexity of the plot and density of prose, I want you to know that my first readthrough of The Silmarillion was when I was eleven, and yes I absorbed most of it.

In actuality, it is due to the lack of follow through on plot points, a general lack of cohesiveness. This may give the impression that the author is actually building up to some great confluence of events, but all I see him doing is milking this setting for the next few decades in what amounts to a fantasy version of Jersey shore, where instead of housemates, you have Great Houses.

I am truly amazed that so many people have such high opinions of this series, and I am not denying the fact that many people enjoy it.

No matter what can be said though, at least it is a better love story than Twilight.

TL;DR: It actually isn't necessary to remove the sting of scorpions before you blend them into your morning workout shake
