My father-in-law is either mean, unbelievably self-centered and insensitive, or hilarious. A lot of people in his hometown think it's the first, my wife thinks it's the second. Me? I know it's the second, but I've decided to pretend that I think it's the third, so I laugh uproariously at every idiotic thing he says. When you do that, the person has to pretend it was a joke, even if it wasn't, else admit to just being an asshole.

Seriously, it works. I can totally control him, and he's mellowing a lot. He's not used to positive feedback, so it's forced him to think about what comes out of his stupid asshole mouth.

It honestly bugs me when I go out of my way to come up with a really clever and painful insult, and people just chuckle at it. "Oh, you're so funny!"

Except it hurts them deep down, I can see it in their eyes; the subtle welling of tears that they hide by covering their face and laughing.

Actually, it pains me to be mean like that to people, but I have no choice in the matter. its the only way I know of to get (somewhat) positive attention from people, rather then having them roll their eyes and dismiss me like I smell vaguely like ass.

I could probably go out and learn how to socialize better, but instead I sit here on reddit, day after day, looking for those blue links I can use to distract myself from the fact that I am nothing but a useless, spineless sub-human who will amount to no more than another cog in some business's cubicle machine; and that I will eventually fade into obscurity. When I die the only people attending my funeral will be any immediate family I have left, and the hobo who relies on church communion to get breakfast on Sundays.

True story stemming from this post:

There's this girl I work with that's a little sassy but actually really funny (we'll call her Jane). This pic reminded me so much of her that I decided to send it to a friend at work. Well my friend's name is spelt similar so they appear very close on the messenger contact list.

I proceed to pull up a window to message a my buddy and say,

"Does this remind you of Jane."

and post the link immediately after.

I get a notification that my buddy has responded, except it's not my buddy... it's Jane who replies,

"yes... yes it does."

I accidentally sent her the message. I have since aplogized and expressed how much I respect her as a coworker, but she hasn't responded and rightly so...
