I was just playing around with 3ds max trying to recreate this. It's a Torus Knot. I set the settings of P:7, and Q:3, and it seems to look the same. Throw a funky material on it, get a nice rendering package, and voila. I see no reason why you couldn't get this 3d printed, and have some sort of spinning platform to store this on.

That would be a very cool conversation piece. Particularly if the spinning platform were one that was hard to tell it was moving.
