So curious as to what the 'Other' regions call it.

Huh; looks like someone removed the note about who collected the data. The original is at http://popvssoda.com/countystats/total-county.html .

I...what...people actually call it pop? Most of America calls it pop? I thought this was a joke! I thought this stopped decades ago! (I'm in a 80-100% "Soda" region. It's fucking soda, too, Jesus.)

Further, lol at calling it all Coke. It's one thing to call Pepsi Coke; it's another to call Sprite Coke. Is anyone calling Sprite Coke?

Pop is just silly. Here in the south we call either Coke or Pepsi "coke." Sprite is Sprite, 7up is 7up, etc.

Now, what if I go to the South and order a Coke, and I really want a Coke? Do I have to specify that I don't want Pepsi unless that's all they have?

They will either:

A. Bring you a Coke if they have that brand, or

B. Ask you if Pepsi is ok.

Most places usually do not have both.

I know they don't. I'm just wondering if the rules are different, because of that map. The map's lost a lot of its credibility to me.

I can speak from experience (lived 90% of my life in the south). We call any cola flavored soda "coke" anything else is either "soda" or referred to by name brand. For example i have never heard anyone call Mountain Dew coke.

Edit: I imagine the map looks the way it does because of the way the survey questions were phrased. If you show a southerner a dark colored soda in a clear glass (so that the brand is unknown) 9/10 times it will get called "coke".

Most of the times they only have one or the other. Just saying coke you get one of the other unless they do any both. If you say coke to that you would just get Coca-Cola.

Sometimes the waiter tell you "We only have Pepsi" if you say coke.

Most of my friends here in northeastern Ohio call it "pop". Besides that I've heard Canadians call it pop and... maybe a few Chicagoans and Detroiters. That's about it.

This is like the fifth time I've seen this and I'm still not sure how accurate this. I went to uni in Michigan for two years and I don't think I ever heard anybody call it pop.
