This is a very good reason not to get tattoos that read as a challenge.

I don't think it's a challenge. He's proudly displaying his love of Steven Seagal. The guy also has a tramp stamp that says "Under Seige."

IDK i think the most wtf in this picture is the police officer and the nurse taking pictures.

[–]duk3nuk3m 23 points24 points ago

This seems to be common in these WTF pictures. If it was for documentation I understand, but taking a picture on your phone?

EDIT: Another WTF of a horrible [NSFW] knee injury with phone camera in view

EDIT: Another WTF of a horrible [NSFW] knee injury with phone camera in view

Alright, I think I'm done browsing r/wtf for the day. "Knee injury" comes no where close to describing what that picture shows.

[–]Icalasari 7 points8 points ago

Police officer is understandable (one usually get's help when having a knife stuck in ones face), the nurse is just kinda a dick.

[–]MagicTarPitRide 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Maybe it's the guy's phone, or one of his friend's phones?

[–]teh_tg 4 points5 points ago

To put a positive spin on it, the guy gets a free knife! Looks like a good one, too.

[–]Tokeli 1 point2 points ago

Cop's obviously taking photos for evidence (I mean he's using an actual camera, for instance), nurse is just rude.

[–]ZuFFuLuZ -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Not necessarily. Documentation gets more and more important everywhere in the health sector. However 3 cameras is a bit overkill. ;)

[–]Tokeli 1 point2 points ago

[–]Bakufun 0 points1 point ago

It's also a big thing with some EMTs. If we see a cool unusual injury, we'll whip out phones or a camera and save that shit.

[–]baronvoncarson 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah. I've always wondered this. At least it seems like the officer is taking a higher quality photo in the OP, but why does the nurse need to take a photo on her phone? Perplexing.

[–]Malicious_Waffles 18 points19 points ago

When it's something like this they need evidence for police reports (the guy with the camera on the right).

The camera phone people just want to say "You'll never guess what I had to deal with at work today."

[–]MagicTarPitRide 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Or maybe it's the victim's phone or his friend's phone...

[–]Magnificent_Zero 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'm surprised they would allow this practice in emergency rooms, given the fact that it would open the hospital up for lawsuits and such. And as a patient, would you really want some hospital nurse invading your privacy like that?

[–]bunnymonster 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I highly doubt it's smiled upon, I just don't think that it's enforced when stuff as...interesting as that happens.

It's not every day a guy with a knife stuck in his face walks in, especially when his tattoo makes it ironic.

[–]LeBattousai 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I used to be an emergency surgeon. A patient came in with barbed wire through his calf and stuck through and around his leg. The story behind it was he was running from the police and ended trying to jump a gate with barbed wire. As the patient was coming in doctors, secretaries and nurses were taking pictures and just amazed. A day later we got a call from our management. They called up everyone who was seen taking pictures of the incident. Some people got fired. A buddy of mine came up with an explanation stating that he was using this incident for reference to his paper. Ended up writing a 30 page paper GG.

Evidence photos, they're documenting a crime. HiPAA doesn't apply in this situation at all.

[–]southbranch401 6 points7 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Only one documenting the crime correctly is the police officer. Staff do not use cell phones to document crime because of the risk of the picture being passed on. Now maybe these other two are his friends/family taking the picture, which happens in the ED all the time, but a secure digital camera is the only proper way for staff to document.

[–]MagicTarPitRide 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I was referring to the police officer. The cell phone cameras are almost certainly the guy's and his friends'

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

What'd you expect, some guy milking his own tits? This is r/WTF, man up.

[–]sto79be 3 points4 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

What a load of shit and how fickle the tide of Reddit. I used to see comments correcting NSFW and NSFL upvoted in this sub all the time and I think it's a fair point. If I want to watch a scary movie but one that doesn't contain too much gore, I can use the age "tags" as a guideline. Likewise if I come to /r/wtf/ i can use the NSFW/NSFL tags to filter contexts that I do or don't want to see. I don't mind seeing weird things that contain naked body parts, though I sometimes feel uncomfortable looking at gore and using the NSFW and NSFL tags synonymously confuses matters. If we're going to go down the path of "man the fuck up cuz you're on /r/wtf" then what's the point in having the NSFW tag at all around here, let alone the NSFL one?

Edit: In the very thread below this one, the pro-NSFL over NSFW is upvoted generously (currently +30) so I don't understand the current downvotes on twofish's comment. http://www.reddit.com/r/WTF/comments/p0c83/just_a_friendly_reminder_to_clean_all_your_cuts/c3li8rk

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

My point is I don't see how people are shocked to see something gory when they click on a NSFW tagged post. I could understand if this were a guys testicles flayed open with maggots eating the decomposing flesh, but this isn't even that bad.

[–]sto79be 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I understand your point, and concur, to a degree. But it has become commonplace that NSFW should signal nudity whereas NSFL should be used to indicate gore/squemish material that may or may not also contain nudity. It's just helpful, polite and courteous and enables a viewer to filter at content at their discretion. If I was perhaps looking for titilation I sure as hell wouldn't be amused at gore.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I understand, but being that r/WTF is meant for things that truly make you say "WHAT THE FUCK?!" I think it's a bit silly that people are shocked by gore.

This subreddit has been overwhelmed by "huh?!" posts if you get what I mean. There ought to be an r/lolwhattheheck or something for people who can stomach a man sucking his own dick but not a guy with a knife in his leg.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I guess I just don't understand what's so hard about adding NSFL to things for people who are a little more squeamish about gore. I mean, I get that it doesn't bother you, but obviously people are in favor for the NSFL tag for a reason. It takes .2 seconds to type out NSFL and add it to your post.

It shouldn't matter that gory material doesn't bother you. It shouldn't matter that you consider this particular post not very shocking. Your threshold for gore isn't the rule for everyone on this sub. The decent thing for people to do is add the NSFL tag.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Point is, it's not yet a rule and you ought to expect either gore or nudity when you click on an NSFW link. Typing "FUCKING NSFL MAN" is imprudent. The combination of NSFW and r/WTF ought to be warning enough until such a rule is added.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Well, I guess we have to agree to disagree.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all against there being a NSFL tag. I just have a problem with the people who seem shocked by gore in an NSFW post in r/WTF.
