Donkeys are kept around other animals for protection. I know that sounds weird, but they sound the alarm and are very alert animals. Cattle farmers do this regularly and the donkeys have been known to kick and kill coyotes.

Donkeys aren't zebras, but they are similar. On a safari I went on in Botswana I learned that in the wild giraffes and zebras roam around together. The zebras stick with the giraffes because of their height. The giraffes can see predators from farther away. When they start running, so do the zebras.
