I have problems with this for two reasons:

1) It's his money. If he wanted to bathe in a tub of gold doubloons every day, then whatever. An American making $25,000 a year still makes over 10x as much as the average South African. And how many of you can honestly say you've donated proportionally as much as you expected Steve Jobs to donate?

2) We don't know how much he actually donated. I'm not saying he did this, but I have a lot of respect for anonymous donors because it's truer altruism - you get absolutely nothing in return, not even recognition (unless outwardly informing people of your donations is guaranteed to ensure more donations).

I'm not supporting anything about either of these two, but I would like to point out that how charitable they are has absolutely no reflection upon the quality of their products. You would need a hell of a lot more data to draw any kind of actual correlation.

Additionally, I think it's funny that Steve Jobs was a self-proclaimed "Buddhist," while Bill Gates is "openly" atheist.

Lol I haven't met one Apple employee who denies Jobb's was an asshole. But that's not why we loved him. We loved him because he had the uncanny ability to see the future before us and create products in relation to that vision. I guess the price for his level of perfectionism was that he was an asshole and he didn't get along with others causing stress which leads to cancer.

I just want to point out that Steve Jobs gave away and is still giving away all of his money. The one genuine conversation I had with Steve Jobs was about giving, he essentially quoted the Bible saying that giving should be in secret, otherwise something about the joy being taken away ( I didn't understand it).

He also mentioned that wealthy people need to be very careful about giving away to charity organizations because if you give large enough sums, you influence governments and when that happens "bad" people get involved diverting you money to change other countries politics

I'm sorry, does everybody forget the thousands of jobs that Steve Jobs created, or the unbelievable multitude of ways that our lives were enriched by his products? If he had quit to do philanthropy when he had the out we wouldnt have the iphone, the ipad, or even the ipod. Apple fired him, and he could have left to "help the world" but no he kept working and gave us an even greater gift. If you want to help the world, be productive. A rising tide lifts all boats.

To be fair, Bill Gates was also paid over 2 billion a year, while Steve jobs was only paid 1 dollar per year plus stock. He kept stock so he would make better decisions for the company if he wanted to make any money of his own.

Good guy Jobs, gives himself only stock to ensure he has the company's best interest in mind.

In all fairness, Bill Gates got a lot more money from a company worth a lot less than Apple. Steve Jobs was worth only about $8.3 billion, while Bill Gates is worth over $56 billion. Plus, who knows how many charities Steve Jobs donated to privately.

I'll get downvoted to hell on this, but Gates donates to Monsanto, which in turn creates GMO that's been documented to cause all sorts of health problems in animals and possibly humans. Monsanto also has a plan to kill all bees and replace them with their own super bees. Monsanto also lines the pockets of ambassadors as politicians to further their agenda of controlling the world's food supply.

I'd rather Jobs hoard his money than fund a company that is slowly destroying the world's food supply using money influenced politics.
