Looking for an image subreddit with minimal rules? Check out /r/images

A place to share interesting photographs and pictures. Feel free to post your own, but please read the rules first (see below), and note that we are not a catch-all for general images (of screenshots, comics, etc.)

Spoiler code

Please mark spoilers like this:
[text here](/spoiler)

Hover over to read.

Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), weight loss photos, posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. Weight loss photos go in /r/loseit, DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

Really? Al jazeera is the least biased news one can read.

Also, this is not your work.

Al Jazeera has its own biases just as every news source does.

Absolutely. I didn't imply that they had no bias. They simply have less bias than many other sites. It's basically impossible to cover news without a bias, even if there is no commentary, a cameraman will choose specific shots over others which develops a bias.

I merely appreciate their at least attempt to report facts and the like.

True, but I think he's referring to Al Jazeera only spinning things at 85mph... While CNN spins things well past breaking the sound barrier.

You clearly missed the last few years if you actually believe this.

Show me a network less biased and maybe I'll bite?

they've gone a little more anti American on their Arabic edition.

A little is a bit of an understatement, although they've toned things down in the last couple of years :)

Have you even watched Al Jazeera? The fuck is wrong with you?

Everyone: Watch an hour of Al Jazeera (its free to stream) for tonight's homework, then make up your own mind on it. You'd be surprised how many people have just come to assume it's some terrorist, biased TV network.

[–]waaaghbosss 1 point2 points ago

Oh, Al Jazeera English.

I thought the picture was of, you know, the other one, that has been the Fox News of the Islamic world for the last decade.

Maybe if they had actually done this...

This repost was better before it had news agency logos superimposed. Only put those on if the agencies actually did the deceptive crops!

Link that is clearly a repost but treats it as a demonstration of the duties of photojournalism, not a commentary on Al Jazeera and CNN.

[–]samisntstudying 1 point2 points ago

Yeah the logos really shit on the whole point of the photo.

The "CNN" image is just as accurate as the middle one, the gun is nowhere near the dude.

Came here looking for this. Thank you.

[–]arelaxedENT 0 points1 point ago

It's the fact of having a gun in the image at all I believe.

[–]rasputine 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

They're soldiers. They all have guns.

[–]arelaxedENT 0 points1 point ago

Downvote for repost. Old repost.

Plus, no news source in their right mind would make a vertical crop like that, even if they were trying to force bias.

[–]rabbitlion 3 points4 points ago

Note that the logos are not related to the differences, none of them are connected to the photo itself.

[–]Quantos 2 points3 points ago

That's the Aljazeera logo? Why exactly does it belong on the left?

[–]rrwrwx 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Christ, really? Have you ever even been to Al Jazeera?

[–]loganed 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

question, what news company is the first picture?

[–]rrwrwx 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

al-jazeera, but this is a shit representation. Objectively, it's less biased than most american networks.

[–]Rhythmos 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

What is this magic objective test for bias you speak of?

[–]Kustav 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The one on the left is Al-Jazeera, even though it is known to be one of the better sources for different discourses and lesser amounts of bias compared to other news agencies.

Way before photoshop there were scissors and way before that the framing of the original shot the way the photographer intended.

That's the power of photography.

[–]Spizzle_Trunk 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'm fairly sure that cameras were invented after scissors.

[–]fatfook 0 points1 point ago

I'm talking about how photos were cropped for print before the digital revolution.

That image was a lot more powerful before you projected your own closed-mindedness onto it by adding those logos.

[–]matrixrory 0 points1 point ago

oh no people are down voting because they have seen it before and no one else must see it. NO ONE!!!

Those acts were brought forward and the people responsible tried and reprimanded. How many countless acts of rape, torture, and homicide were brought forward and how many held responsible from any of our enemies side. Most of them get treated better in our establishments than they do in their own countries. While our men get dragged through the streets and hung up from light posts. Idiots doing stupid things is never good from our side and makes all of america look bad but do not fool yourselves into thinking we are the bad ones.

[–]Bob3333 0 points1 point ago

I don't fool myself into thinking anybody is bad or good. Those are human concepts developed in each society and culture. What makes someone a good person in Pakistan is probably not identical to what makes a good person in Okinawa. There is significant overlap, but there's also a lot of divergence.

That might have been a nice, cozy rationalization to wrap yourself up in once. Not any more and not for a long time. Fear and Vengeance led us up to a ghastly watchtower, so we could look out from far above the law, simple decency and the rest of humanity. They said we would connect the dots from up there, but they meant destroying our open society so we could stay securely locked in worry and suspicion. We have not just been foolish individually, or as a leadership, or as generations bound together in bad times. We have betrayed our core principles and made things ever worse. Things like rendition, torture, false imprisonment, collective punishment: they aren't just emergency measures, or just wrong. They don't just not work. They diminish us. They keep things spinning sideways. We knew better as a people once but that was back when what you're saying here may have meant something. That was before we went mad, and we let Cheney start working what he called the dark side. That was back when more of our guys died at the hands of the enemy than at their own hands, remember? If it is worth fighting for, it is worth living up to. We've had plenty of fighting. Let start living up some.
