The father's ruse in this fictional depiction is quite mischievous, if I do say so. I myself have had the most disheartening experience of being on the receiving end of this sort of trickery. In celebration of the eighth year of my birth, my father had taken me to Leiden, Holland to visit the Valk Windmill, a site that has been preserved in working condition to this very day. As we made our way to the attraction I caught sight of a moderately sized crowd that had gathered around a magician preforming in the street. Needless to say, I petitioned my father for permission to watch his show, which he reluctantly obliged. Well this magician you see was not merely some common grifter, for as it turned out he was the great Eliaser Bamberg himself. The great great grandfather of Theo Bamburg and founder of the famous Bamberg magical dynasty. Yes that very Elaiser Bamburg! While I am quite certain that the legendary disappearing frog trick and cup and balls routine are well known to all, I can assure you that if you have not witnessed their glory first hand then I'm afraid to inform you that you may as well have no knowledge of them at all. I was so taken in by his sorcery that I went to pay a praise to the man after the show. Sadly, before I could speak but a word to the man, I accidentally learned the secret of his craft and walked away with a feeling of disenchantment my younger self had not yet known. As it were, the source of his illusions was a secret compartment in his wooden leg which allowed him to conceal the 'vanished' items from even the most perceptive audience member. As a result I swore an oath to myself on the spot that never again would I be taken in by the treachery of the black arts, an oath I have honored to this very day.
