I don't normally get upset with reposts here, but the guy that made this put in so much damn work to make it, and he isn't credited at all (you seem to be getting quite a lot of compliments for somebody else's work :/ )

As far as i'm aware this is the original if you feel like complimenting the creator.

Reposts are a problem on all the subreddits. Having a bot at least give credit to the original submitter is better than nothing :)

Honestly, I think reddit should adopt the digg system. I haven't used digg lately but they used to search for similar posts, and make you confirm. Granted, reposts would still get through, via people who don't care, but I think it would definitely help, especially here, if one was shown that what they intend to post was already posted.

Idk...this seems to be the worst subreddit as far as reposts go from what I've seen, especially because I always see something like "Repost, uptokes anyway though" it just bothers me...definitely if we could get a bot like that I'd be all for it so at least the creator would get some credit for it.

If we could add some sort of function like a reverse image search when posting, that'd be perfect. Not sure if that's possible though

reddit could implement a quick scan to see if the url has already been submitted. Even a basic search like that would cut down on reposts

If they really wanted to implement it, they could use google image search or something similar to compare, but that sounds very resource intensive.

Well reddit already does that actually, if you post a link someone else has already it brings you to the original post automatically. People just reupload the image though and that gets around the filter since there's a new url. There's a site that does a reverse image search called karma decay, it's really useful in avoiding reposting something. If that could be used somehow, it'd be perfect haha

Because they're looking for a reason to feel good. A MEANINGLESS reason that brings them completely empty and superficial happiness. The people who upvote the reposts probably haven't seen the post before, so some joy was brought from it.

I feel this way. A lot of the time I'll see something I thnik is new, I'll laugh about it, and then start reading the comments. Immediately I'll see "This is a repost!" and people complaining about people from other subreddits using /r/trees for karma.

Of course people are using r/trees for karma, we uptoke just about everything. Hell, I'm just as guilty as probably 80% of other ents on here of getting baked and just going through and uptoking EVERYTHING. I'll be laughing my ass off at some of the stupidest stuff and just being like "Uptokes! Uptokes EVERYWHERE!" You know what I mean?

I'm fine with reposts. They allow for entertainment and inspiration to come to new and less frequent users. I'm just talking about addressing the source you got it from to be polite to the author or person to originally find it.

How does this have to do with not crediting the author? You'll take the time to snag their work and post it, but not give them the credit of being the creator of the content? It takes a good 60 seconds tops to make a comment on your own post saying "here's the source: [link]".

Of course we don't want to send all of /r/trees to a blog and DDOS it, so we use imgur, but if you got something off a blog or another subreddit, just point us to the place we found it so we can perhaps find more similar content or compliment the author directly on creating the funny or interesting image directly. If you got it off 4chan or 420chan, just mention that in the title or the comments, and it probably won't put a dent in the karma you get from the post.

I've seen this before, but it just uses the patterns from the photos and recolors them to fit the image. It looks like this one has kept the original coloring of the photos, which is quite impressive
