This makes me miss meatball.

One time we went for a walk around a lake (he was probably 5 or so). Halfway around he let me know he wasn't happy and wanted to go home. I figured we might as well pick up the pace then, so he could get back sooner. Wrong. He dug in on the spot, right when my pace changed. Head to the ground, ass in the air, not going another step.

After a second it clicked for me and I undid his leash and took his harness off. As I sat down on the side of the lake, he walked straight in and sat up to his neck in mud and water and just looked at me panting. Eventually when he cooled off enough and realized that I wasn't coming in, he came back out and sat on my lap. I guess he wanted to be sure that if he had to have a bath, I would too.
