The reason Frank Shamrock was doing this was because he wanted to lure Bas into striking him with a closed fist, which was against the rules of the fight at the time.

It worked too; Bas got a red card and then shamrock lost the fight.

err..bad plan...

"at the time"....no, this is not MMA. It is PANCRASE. It has never allowed closed fist, never will.

edit: OK, I screwed the pooch. Should have said it's not "UFC." I submit my humble apology and tip my bowler to you fine gentlemen.

I meant the fights they were in at the time (PANCRASE) as opposed to later fights he had in MMA and the UFC where closed fists are allowed. Sorry if I didn't make that clear in the post.

Not true, those were the old rules. Present day they use the same rules as Pride FC:

Damm right you edited.

It makes more sense that you say this is not UFC, and therefore had different rules. Pancrase is technically still mixed martial arts, you just can't hit with a closed fist. It's like you saying Pride wasn't MMA because it didn't allow elbows on the ground.

...or like saying UFC isn't mma because it dosen't allow kicks to the head of a grounded opponent.

It may be worth pointing out that Frank Shamrock got bitchslapped unconscious by Bas Rutten in that match.

His cockiness was unfounded.

bas rutten started the closed fist actually and got a red flag. his cockiness was funded

Bullshit. Frank Shamrock was a douchebag. It also doest detract from the fact that Bas literally bitchslapped him to the ground.

And when Bas broke his liver? Shamrock couldn't ever beat Bas so he had to resort to sticking his tongue out.

Stating the fact that he got a red flag. You people get so butthurt

Meh, no.

You said his "cockiness was funded", though since I don't see dollar billas falling on the ground in that gif, I'll assume you mean "well-founded."

It in fact was not - it wasn't cockiness at all, it was hopeless taunting. He did raise Bas' ire into a dangerous form, and Bas got in trouble - which just made him more angry, and he destroyed Shamrock.

So actually, Shamrock's retarded action here just made him take a probably much WORSE wallopping from Bas.

No butthurt, just clarifying.

Here's a clip explaining the scene. Basically, punching with a closed fist to the head was not allowed, so Shamrock is trying to antagonize Bas into punching him with a closed fist instead of an open hand.

First half of the fight

Second half of the fight

That's why you never respond to Yahoo answers, only posts. You don't troll trolls.

Wasn't that Ken Shamrock?

[–]CptSpaulding 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

no. ken fought in the UFC before frank, and established a name plus joined the WWF, so he was WAY more visible. no ifs ands or buts about it, ken is a legend as well. BUT, frank was the first fighter to really study ground fighting AND stand up fighting. he was the first "complete" fighter, and he won and defended the (middleweight? i think they called it back then?) belt 4 times. dana white HATES frank, though, so you won't hear them mention him, ever.

Notice how he tries to duck his head down everytime so his forehead is what gets hit instead of his jaw or face.
