Im assuming this is from him not winning the Golden Globe for his performance in J. Edgar. He lost it to George Clooney, who won best actor for his performance in The Descendants. The Golden Globes are a joke though.

why is it always movies that came out in that past month that win Golden Globes and Oscars? do the award givers memories not extend beyond 4 weeks?

It is true that Oscars/Golden Globes typically are awarded to more recent films, but from what I've been told the reason was commercial rather then because of poor memories.

Awards have the ability to significantly extend the lifetime that a movie stays in theaters so movies that Hollywood thinks are strong contenders for an award are released in the November/December time frame.

As for the judges themselves, they get DVDs or films shipped to them so they can watch them at their leisure whenever they want, at home or in a private screening.

This was during Morgan Freeman's acceptance speech of the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award. Morgan started his career during a time when black actors didn't have many opportunities. Despite that he pressed on because of his love for acting.
