Cat people, baby people, spanking people. You are different in so many ways, yet on this point you find common ground: you're all annoying as fuck.

Anybody that's a 'people' is annoying.

Have any of you actually seen this video? It's actually pretty sad. Whoever the adult is that's filming this is a jerk.

yeah, the mum says in Polish "hit it", before the kid swings.. and keeps laughing as her kid rolls off the bed. stupid kid, yea, but goaded on by an even stupider parent.

There's obviously not a lot of parenting going on here, hence the kid's behaviour.

Have you ever met a kid? kids don't have a understanding of right and wrong. Even the most well behaved child hits both animals and people simply because they don't understand what's wrong with it, especially when sad which seems to be the case with this video.

I don't buy the idea that kids don't understand stuff. Kids understand as much as their parents help them understand. I've seen a shitload of misbehaved children during my first job working in a toy store because their parents were letting them misbehave. CONSEQUENCES is the key word. I think a good swift swat on the ass is a fine way of letting a child know the action they performed has a consequence that should prove undesirable if it is performed again. The parents in this video did a poor job of demonstrating to the child that it is NOT OK to harm an animal, it's funny because the cat did what the parents should have. A perfect example of my argument is a friend of mine who is a rather young single father of a boy who is now in kindergarten. This child is probably the best behaved child I have ever encountered, when my friend brings his kid over it is not a burden or a pain in the ass or irritating to me (I don't have, want or generally like kids btw). The reason this kid is cool is because his father is a GOOD parent, he talks to his son intelligently and explains to him the meaning of things and why things work the way they do and if his kid misbehaves in my house or anywhere else there is a swift, firm and acceptable discipline that follows. The kid knows to treat my animals (3 cats) with respect, treat my things with respect and treat me and my fiance with respect. The best part? Since this kid has demonstrated to me that he knows how to behave he gets to play with my AWESOME collection of Star Wars toys because he's earned it. So no I don't believe that kids don't have an understanding of right and wrong, I know I certainly did growing up, I know my friend does as well and because of this his son has learned to understand right and wrong from him.

TL;DR - Kids understand what their parents help them understand.

You can be a firm parent without thwacking kids.

Oh I agree, not every situation calls for a spanking. I pretty much believe explaining something is superior to a form of corporal punishment BUT an explanation of why you're getting a spanking is the best. Child abuse is wrong, but so is neglecting to properly discipline your child.

I think the role of spanking is when a child is doing something physically dangerous and needs a strong negative association with that particular thing. But regarding matters of etiquette, behavior and responsibility that are less immediate and more longterm principles, reacting violently just solidifies in the child's mind that petty, aggravation-driven punishment is acceptable. My parents weren't perfect but I feel that they did a good job from time to time of talking to me on an equal level and explaining principles and morals, and even disciplining us without being mean-spirited about it. To the extent that I'm a well-adjusted adult I think I can thank them :).

Clumpy, you didn't have to make that statement, you're personal beliefs on hitting a kid or not were irrelevant. If you had started your own thread or made a post, cool, but you completely derailed my happy train of thought with this hard tangent. You receive 1 down vote for disrupting good flow of discussion.

This is a very short .gif and I have no idea what happened in the actual video but it's of course absolutely necessary for parents to tell their kids that they can't do shit like that. But expecting a child to know they can't do that even without knowing if he's ever done it before or been taught not to is stupid. This kid hit the cat and it's an absolutely normal thing to do for a child. I can only hope the parent did something about it even if he/she was filming.

Honestly this is my kind of parenting. Learning instead of prevention. My dad did the same thing for me. When I fell down and got hurt, or I picked a fight with a bully, or I made someone upset, or I said something stupid, he let it happen and told me why the result happened.

The kid was clearly fucking with the cat before this gif started hence it's defensive stance. The kid smacked the cat and got what he deserved. I'm willing to bet he learned the same lesson 2 ways, once from the parent and once from the bite to the forehead.

I can see your logic in this situation but I disagree with one thing. The parents had a role that the animal is to be treated with respect before letting the child interact with it. Let's use this scenario, there is a blazing camp fire and your child has decided to start wandering into the fire. Is the better choice to warn your child that the fire is a harmful thing when it is not respected or let him fall face first and learn from the burns? Both methods are effective but one has far less severe consequences. If the child needs further explanation because he simply doesn't believe the fire can be dangerous take out a small pocket lighter and ignite it, ask the child if he cares to touch the flame, either the knowledge that fire is potentially dangerous is already instilled and the child knows to respect the flame or he will touch the lighter flame and suffer only a minor burn which will give him that same knowledge. I guess this is child abuse...good thing I don't have or intent to have children.

The video is about some older girl (relative? baby sitter?) setting the cat up to harm the kid. The cat bites the kids feets a couple times and scratches the kids face. The kid is crying the whole time and finally hits the cat.

So yeah.. cheer for the cat guys.

Here is the video. The person filming this needs to be the one smacked in the face (with a hammer preferably).

Aaah, thanks for that. I can see what's going on now. The mum is a fucking cunt and so is the cat.

That kid totally deserved it. I would shit bricks if my kids did anything like that to an animal.

Anybody have a link to the original video? Look at the kid's face, he's clearly crying or upset. The cat was probably being a little shit, because that's what cat's fucking do. And then it get's pissy that it got hit back. Fuck the cat for being a bitch. And fuck the kid for obviously being the cat's bitch.
