Nah, what got me was the giant black hand that comes down from the ceiling and drags you up. I literally didn't finish Ocarina of Time for 7 years due to the Shadow Temple.

Quite literally "hands down" the scariest part of Ocarina of Time

I was able to get passed that part by screaming my ass off (I was pretty young), but when it came to the shadow temple, it was just too much and I was afraid to enter a certain room.

Wallmasters. FUCK WALLMASTERS.

And fuck the Redeads in the Earth Temple in WW.

[–]Jonovox 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It doesn't even make sense to call them Wallmasters anymore. It made sense in the original game, when they came out of the wall, but now they drop from the ceiling.

[–]TheAwesomeinator 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Ceilingmaster doesn't quite have the same ring to it, though. :/

[–]Skydragonace 1 point2 points ago

To be fair, the ceiling is technically a wall as well. I see your point, but do you really want an enemy to be called a ceilingmaster?

I played through it again on the 3DS over Christmas. I was tooling around at the Gerudo Fortress, went out into the desert to head to the Spirit Temple, and couldn't get to it. Turns out my brain had blocked all memories of the Shadow Temple out of sheer terror. When I got there I pretty much ran full-speed through the whole thing with my eyes closed. 45 minutes later, I was back in the desert.

Since I never owned an N64 and I don't have many scary games, the most horrifying gaming experience I ever had was from Bioshock.

There's this one part about a quarter way into the game where you go to a frozen section where there is a surgery room. Upon entering the room, you notice a frozen corpse on the table. As you go up to it, the screen begins to freeze up and your character is now immobile. Cold fog fills the room until you're completely blind. After a few seconds, the fog disappears and your character becomes immobile again. You look at the operation table and see that the body has disappeared. Your first instinct is to turn around and as you do so, he comes flying out of nowhere with a screeching battle cry. That my friends, is how I nearly shat my pants from a video game.

[–]Ram1r3z 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I really ought to play Bioshock. I played 2, but not 1. I don't know why.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I've played through them both about 3 times each, at least. The first one was a lot more fun for me, and I believe it to be the better game. It might be a bias judgement though since it was a new concept to me. They are both absolutely amazing games however. If you play your games on consoles, you could probably find the first one for about 20 bucks at any wal-mart.

[–]Ram1r3z 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah, I would, but currently my parents have my Xbox, and probably won't let me have it back until March, just because I didn't go to something for the stupid goddamn Boy Scouts.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

How old are you?

[–]Ram1r3z 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

  1. Why?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Because I feel like you are younger than I depicted in my mind for a few reasons.

  1. You're on reddit, I tend to think the vast majority of people on this site are aged between 16-30 (Not that I don't want other people outside of that age group on here)

  2. You mentioned boy scouts. Now unless you're a counselor or something, I'd predict the oldest people that are boy scouts would be about 14, tops.

  3. Your parents took your xbox away. That just seems like a punishment that could only apply to children and young teenagers.

  4. Rather than giving me your actual age, you asked why, which makes it seem like you're ashamed of the number. I honestly don't care so you don't have to answer, but it would be appreciated.

[–]Ram1r3z 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Oh shit, my 3 key must not have worked or something. I'm 13, but I kind of hate it when people assume I'm retarded for being that age.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah, well I have the maturity of a ten year old, so you're probably more fit for society than me.

Anyways, get Bioshock 1, it's just as good, if not it's better. Also, tell your parents that the scout leaders touch you in bad places, they'll never punish you or make you go again. And here's a list of ways to manipulate your parents, cheerio.

[–]Ram1r3z 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Won't work, my dad believes that Scouts will help me a whole lot in the future(protip: it won't for someone that wants to work with computers all day) and he thinks I have to stay in it because if I don't, he's afraid I won't get out enough. Also, fuck you, you lemony asshole.

I know that is under the Well, but it just makes me think of the Shadow Temple. Though they are rather similar. Seriously, what the hell happened down there? Hyrule Castle Town is filled with the undead, but the Shadow and Under the Well are these little tucked away places filled with torture chambers and horrible things.

[–]jrhop364 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Oh god no. Mine was Redeads.

I understand we were all afraid of them, but I had one experience that scared me forever.

There I am, about 10 or something, playing Ocarina of Time, traveling through Hyrule, when all of the sudden, I find a hole. "It ain't notihin'!" Little me thinks, "I tackle these all the time!" and so I hop on in.

I land in there, and there are two Redeads standing on the opposite side of the room. I am terrified right now, because Redeads have always scared me. But I take a deep breath and pull out my fire arrows and take aim, because I realize that I'm out of their reach and they can't "see" me yet. So I shoot the arrow and kill the one on the left. He falls and dies in a flaming heap.

This is where it starts to really scare me, Slowly, the other Redead begins to move. Not towards me, but, towards the fallen one. His head moved ever so slowly, his torso and body still facing me, but his head was completly facing the other way, and then his body slowly turned to to join it, and he started walking in the direction of the other redeads burning body. It was slow, and I was literally frozen in fear as this happened, confused and a little curious.

He gets to the body and stares down at it, Just standing over it for what seemed like ages, I begin to pull out my bow again, and suddenly, his head flips around and SCREAMS at me. I scream, throw my controller and run out of the room, and then I realize Link is left alone and I run back in there and shake the controller to break free, run out of the cave and never go back.

These were scary, but I personally was terrified going out into hyrule field at night when I was a child. Those freaking skeletons scared the crap out of me! The shadow temple was insanely frightning as well, but I hated the bottom of the well also.

First time leaving the Temple of Time as adult Link horrified me when I was little. I was not expecting anything like what I saw. All those creepy redeads and the sounds they make when they try to grab you >_< I use to make a mad dash to and from that temple.

I'm too old for that to be a childhood memory. My most terrifying childhood memory was the movie "The Gate" where two little boys accidentally open a portal to hell. Games never really terrified me. Not even Wall Masters, Floor Masters or Redeads.

resident evil 2 scarred me as a kid, that daunting thought that everything you hold dear could turn against you mindlessly not kill you, but turn you into one of them forced to do the same to others.

[–]Eternitras 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I dunno man. I think the Shadow Temple is still scarier than any silent hill/resident evil/fatal frame I've ever played. The point of those games is to scare you. The way the Shadow Temple was so scary in OoT is like...hmm...let's take the horror games, playing through those is like reading a lovecraft or a king novel, you know you're gonna be scared and you signed up for it. The Shadow Temple is like discovering some incredibly dark and evil chapter in the middle of a normal young adult adventure novel. It hits you and is unexpected and the rest of the book is normal. That one part was just so out of character and scary that it left a mark.
