I have been invited to church a bunch of times. Usually when I move into a new area (I was in the military for 9 years. This happened often). I would always politely explain that I was an atheist and I wasn't interested. This only seemed to fuel their desires to "save" me.

One guy even asked if he could have "the honor of having my church baptize your children. If they die, I want them to be beside Jesus". Real, actual fucking quote!

Needless to say, I never spoke another word to him and I told my kids to stay very far away from that man.

I'd have made sure he understood exactly the depths of his transgressions, and how that was probably the worst thing possible to say other than, "I will eat your children"...

... which is something I've said to someone before. Not proud of that.

If you eat my children, I will eat your God's body and drink his fucking blood ... oh, wait.

My wife works with a bunch of fundies who think that they are blessed greatly. They work hard, but don't make a lot of money (constantly complaining on facebook about not being able to afford anything, but ever so 'happy' nonetheless) because they aren't really educated, and can't be bothered to really get that education. My wife, with a two-year degree (intensive Dental Hygienist source, same as many 4-year degrees at schools), makes probably twice as much as they do.

They think they are being good Christians by inviting her to lunchtime bible study, lunches at the church next door, etc. My wife doesn't want to rock the boat, so she just says no, and eats lunch and reads in her car. She's finished Dawkin's "The Magic of Reality" lately, and is working on Sagan's "Demon-Haunted World." Let's just say that reading those at the office wouldn't be the best of ideas.

Soon... she shall embrace the Dark Side, and be one of us...

Why? And does this happen often?

People start innocently enough ... "sorry, I can't do x, I have a thing at my church for the kids". Then they learn you kinda play guitar, and their church band happens to be down a guitar player on some random Sunday.

Ok, so your worried it could become a point of contention and since it's colleagues it could be a volitile or at the very least sensitive situation?

You know it. In America, atheists are looked upon as anarchist rapists.

Cats have such an interesting reaction to pieces of paper stuck to them.

They always try to unwittingly back away from it.
