In case anyone was looking to remember or to experience for the first time the absolute destroyer of worlds that was Mike Tyson in his prime... prepare to be amazed.

Disclaimer: Master of the Obvious Post

I think Tyson's greatest single asset was his movement / ability to change levels. Boxers with a longer reach just weren't able to utilize that reach to keep him on the outside.

I'd be willing to bet that top ranked boxers have, on average, a longer reach than lower ranked boxers, and rely heavily on that reach to their advantage. But when you face someone like Tyson, that reach is essentially meaningless.

That was definitely something that stood out for me in that video. The majority of his opponents had a definite reach advantage on Tyson, but it just didn't matter because of his crushing blows.

Ya, that would kill me.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Just imagine him fighting with the padded gloves they use in the UFC. People would probably get killed, for real.

Is that a spray of blood?

[–]bleakwood 9 points10 points ago

It only looks like blood but if you were to slow it down look real close, thats the reverberation of space and time being ripped apart by one bad ass motherfucker!

You think that's bad, there is a frame there that looks like his fucking head came off! (just after contact) Must have pretty damn hard to displace and replace matter like that

Probably sweat.

Sometimes watching his knockouts make me feel the same sort of sympathy I'd feel for watching animals being tortured. They're that bad.

Dammmnnnnnn. He got fucking laced! Iron Mike was no joke.

I remember having a discussion with my friends with how many of us it would take to take Tyson in a street fight straight up; no weapons. Just fists. The Mike Tyson in this .gif, when he was unstoppable

I always leaned towards at least 7 or 8 people. Taking a punch like that, without a boxing glove on, would probably kill a normal person. Easily would break your jaw and knock you the fuck out.

7 or 8 average joes would have no chance. I reckon once we get to 10 it becomes more realistic, but that's assuming they are all willing to go balls out and rush him.

The most important factor... did the group have time to plan? If no plan more than 10. I think 6 maybe if they knew what they were doing and had it worked out ahead of time.

What do you think would be the most effective plan?

[–]ImLosingMyEdge 9 points10 points ago

Run the fuck away

[–]shhitgoose 0 points1 point ago

Yea. You're probably right. Watching those videos, he was just so incredibly quick. Professional boxers could barely land a punch on him so just imagine me or you trying to hahahah

I thought boxing gloves were more to protect the fist, rather than to protect the face?

[–]Slackbeing 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Actually both.

When two bones hit each other, the flesh between is pinched and it usually ends up in cuts, so most fights would end in TKO from bleeding faces, they would be significantly shorter and less appropriate for a profitable show.

Other than that, punching without gloves on anything in the head other than nose, cheekbones and chin hurts your first real bad. The skull is a fucking rock. So if you get in a street fight you better punch the body and be extra careful if you go for the face; in the short range leave strikes to the head for your elbows; much more effective.

When one punch knocks you out or kills you I think 8 isn't enough.

I read that as TIGER UPPERCUT.

[–]tusocalypse 2 points3 points ago

That is what I like to refer as a funeral punch.

[–]poet_will 1 point2 points ago

That is a sick, sick uppercut. That man really had it in his prime.

One fist of iron, the other of steel. If the right one don't get you, the left one will

I don't care who you are. If you ever found yourself standing across the ring from Tyson in his prime, you were shitting your pants!

[–]thebigdonkey 0 points1 point ago

He had the filthiest uppercuts I've ever seen. I remember on a couple different occasions, he'd explode on a guy with a WICKED right to the body and follow up as the guy was doubling over with a lethal right uppercut.

[–]iKaka 0 points1 point ago

Holy shit! Thats what I call an uppercut
