I read through all these comments and was not surprised at the content. Lots of finger pointing. As a 30 year old white male from Texas I've seen plenty of racism from black and white. When you really get down to the bottom of it all, race really doesn't have as much to do with it as you may think. A person is either a shithead or they aren't. Pretty simple.

And then there was Neil DeGrasse Tyson and Barack Obama who are living the dream right now, but I get what you're saying. Black people then and now were called "niggers" by asshole bigots who wanted to hurt or kill them, and now some call each other "nigger" and think of the ghetto lifestyle as the epitome of black culture (which I think is pissing on MLK's grave IMO), but not all black people are like that. Not even most black people are like that.

That being said, can you guys please stop downvoting everyone in this thread who is trying to have a discussion about race and calling "racist" any time some people are cast in a less-than-favorable light? It's not racist to talk about it.

You know what causes racism? Acknowledging differences between people. Everyone who is flipping the fuck out, are nothing but racists. It's no different than a redneck joke, which nobody ever seems to get defensive over. "Oh, how dare you use that redneck joke, you disgusting racist bigot!." Learn to laugh a little, don't create the mental differences in your mind between people. Where I live, this is more a statement about class than race. People in our community don't want to be associated with the 'gangsta' class anymore than white people want to be associated with the 'white supremacy' class.

Unfortunately, there are both violent gangs and the Klan existing in the same county - and people do tend to polarize more here as a result. They are the extremes of the spectrum and no one I know personally wants to be on either extreme end of that spectrum and even within their own races - look at examples of those extremes with dismay and contempt.

Of course, it does still get touchy when one group makes judgement calls about a subset of the other. I can see why Chris Rock 'took back' the joke.
