I dissent.

One of the things that somewhat annoys me is the mantra of "buyer beware." I work retail, and I know of quite a few shitty products in my store that I would never recommend. These products are also the ones that pull no punches when trying to say they're the best, and often are not the least expensive ones. They get returned almost inevitably.

When you're looking for information that isn't widely (or immediately) available you're more prone to take things at face value. People may believe they're smarter than that, but you don't know all the things to take into account, let alone do so. One of the key variations of market failure is when there is incomplete information, leading to either deception or at the very least misconception.

This tattoo artist who is most likely going to end up on the wrong side of the law probably gets his clientele by word of mouth, most likely his own. Yes, his clients are stupid for not doing their own research, but there's probably very little information out there besides his own boasting. Chances are they don't look him up, and he's only been advertising on Facebook for about 6 days.

I believe the best thing the internet can do in this situation is to get the word out as broadly as possible, so it can reach the local authorities in his town of residence, who will then end the operation. He is disfiguring people, and is most likely somehow deluded (probably by arrogance) into thinking he does a good job.

Say a car company runs ads on TV saying it's the best car ever. The car then runs great for precisely 1500 miles before blowing up. That first wave of buyers didn't have any information besides the advertisements. That's where Synyster Ink is at.
