I used to do this with my bothers all the time, we understood that you sit near the middle on the mattress and not the end.

also there shouldn't be curves in the stair.

I did this with my little brother growing up (we used a camping mattress), and it was AWESOME! We pretended we were fighter pilots, and the the curve at the bottom of the stairs just made for an extra fun challenge. I feel the need - the need for speed! Let's go Goose!

I must admit that we only did this when my parents weren't at home, and if my mom knew, as the oldest, i probably would have gotten the shit whipped out of me....

yeh that's what it felt like the first half of the stairs

Are you my little brother?

if you have lived your life as a girl then maybe, but the idea of my sister being on reddit seems quite unrealistic

While I lived my life as a girl (and still do (and always will)), I now know that you are not my little brother because he's the one that intro'd me to reddit!

yup. i going to say that it's not bad parenting, it's kids having fun and sometimes getting hurt. they'll survive. they'll learn from it

Looks like fun. I'm glad my parents didn't wrap me in a plastic bubble and tried to protect me from the world. Made me a better person. Coincidentally I have some friends that were sheltered from all aspects of life, whether is being social interactions or physical pain, and they are unequivocally pussies.

[–]WFOE 12 points13 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I've seen a lot of this. Same goes with food. I've met people that are so used to eating fancy meals that they wont eat anything else. I grew up eating what was available. Consequently, I can pretty much eat anything and like it too. Being completely sheltered isn't always a good thing, imo.

[–]WiiMachinE 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I am one of those pussy's but I don't think it was my parents fault. I just never liked getting hurt. I did a couple stupid things as a kid but not many. In fact my parents would try to get me to be more outgoing but I would always say no and wuss out. I am also picky as fuck. Like sometimes I would rather not eat than eat something that tastes like shit. I will make an effort to eat just about anything at a guests house though, but when I'm home fuck that. Anyway just sort of felt like sharing.

While I do detest over-protective parenting, I'm not entirely sure the "Fuck it! Throw them down the stairs!" end of the spectrum is a good idea either.

[–]unholyravenger 0 points1 point ago

I also don't think that's what happened in the video. If she wasn't dumb she would have sit in the middle and lowered her center of gravity, instead she sat at the end while sitting up. Minor scraps for a good lesson in physics.

I don't remember seeing this side of the spectrum in the video either. While what happened was stupidity at its finest, the child wasn't thrown down the stairs, as you so eloquently put it.

You took me literally?

Ouch...

[–]BoOnDoXeY 0 points1 point ago

You're trying to backpedal out of a comment and claim it as sarcasm?! Or were you just playing the extreme sides of the ball? If the latter, then I apologize.

[–]bigsol81 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

...it was the latter. My grandfather made a zipline for me out of that cheap plastic clothes line when I was a kid. A zipline. From the top of a two-story tall tree. I was like eight years old at the time. I don't consider that abuse or bad parenting.

In other words, I was just making a joke because I thought "Fuck it! Throw them down the stairs!" sounded funny.

Beings as I have context, that is pretty funny. When I was a child, my dad would get a huge roll of bubble wrap and we would go sledding on it (he didn't have much money). It was great fun, until we decided to go off a jump whilst riding the bubble wrap. Needless to say, it didn't end well. I chalk it up to living and learning, lol.

My brother and I used to do this with couch cushions. It all ended one day when my brother went down backwards, did a back flip... and landed on his head.

Me and my brothers did this. Only instead of a mattress we lined the stairs in the large bottom couch cushions, and put all the other pillows we could find at the bottom of the stairs. We then proceeded to toboggan down the stairs on bean bag chairs. Best Childhood memories were made, and yes, we got some bumps and bruises, but my mom knew we weren't gonna die. Cuts and scrapes are a part of growing up. Besides, you can walk off alot more injuries as a kid than you can as an adult!

[–]Teekoo 0 points1 point ago

This is not bad parenting. Kids are very resilient, you're not supposed to protect them for every minor potential danger.

[–]orthag 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Don't worry! Kids are springy!

Interesting story, the first time i said that, a child had fallen down a small flight of concrete stairs. The mother was pissed but every one else thought it was funny, including the kid who had fallen down the stairs.

[–]Freakin_Jedi 0 points1 point ago

You need to send down at least 2 kids prior to break her fall.

Carpeted stairs=bad idea.

Slick stairs=megafun!

Also, she shouldn't have sat on her knees like that. You sit with your legs out in front of you and hold on the the sides. The whole situation was asking for trouble.
