i'm a christian but i refuse to go to a religious "college or university" because i know it'll destroy any academic credibility

this stemmed from a long conversation with someone on the topic of stem cell research. This guy had a "masters degree" but had absolutely no idea what he was talking about and could barley put a sentence together. It was seriously like debating with a 5th grader. Oh and of course he didn't need any evidence to support any of his claims... but I guess that goes without saying.

When they go to actually study the bible they don't always become atheists, its hard to have a job if you go that route, instead they usually just get very nuanced and sweep the problem under the rug until they get to preaching where there views can be insulated again. Bart Ehrman talked about that in one of his books, can't remember which.

Well if you go to a "bible college" you probably don't get an open minded enough education about christianity, but if you study the bible yourself in any other college you might. My english teacher was a christian until he took a theology class in university, and he's the most atheist person I've ever met.

Going to any bible college that doesn't hold the bible as innerant will probably rock enough skepticism and critical thinking into a honest person to start a process.

On my blog, one of my Christian friend's brother was a seminary student getting his masters in Apologetics (think William Lane Craig). He started commenting on my posts about history and I mopped the floor with him.

After 2 weeks of answering every objection he had, and him failing to say anything I didn't already know, and him completely ignoring what I had to say, he left me alone.

Put a little work into it and the value went up quite a bit.
