Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

1) water levels are not always this high

2) water is exceptionally clear, and grass can survive being submerged

3) it's not really submerged for 6 months, more like 3, as far as I know.

Green Lake, Austria. Half the year it's underwater due to ice and snow melting on the mountain tops. I know there was a thread on it no so long ago but I couldn't find it. Some of the same pics you have already posted but with an added video here. Green Lake, Austria

You obviously haven't seen much of Florida. Most of Florida is nothing like typical stereotypical notions of it. In fact most of Florida is undeveloped and would completely surprise you with its beauty. Next time you travel here (if you ever have) move as far inland as you can away from large cities. You'd be shocked by the incredible scenery and nature you'd encounter. Granted a lot of that nature can eat you in just a bite or two, but it's worth the canoe trip, hike, etc.

Do we have hyper-developed coastal regions and a giant tourist trade here? Of course. But there's actually a shit ton of nice places here too. I've live here 21 years, and in this house for 6 - I just found out the creek near my house is way bigger and longer than I'd previously known... and it's beautiful! I had no idea. I've driven over a couple of bridges that cross it in a few places and never realized it was more than a "routed swamp", so to speak. Turns out it's yet another surprise this state offers me all the time.

As for beautiful places to dive here, there are amazing natural springs and caves, inland waters with gentle manatees, the Keys, and even a coral reef that is the only underwater national park.

It's easy to make fun of us because of the stereotypes, but there's really soooooo much more to Florida than all that.

Maybe I shouldn't be talking it up so much, I think we just became the 3rd most populous state recently... maybe I need to just go with the stereotype imagery.

Forget all that other stuff, nothing but old people, Disney characters, high rise condos, and tourist traps here. Not even any hot girls, or space agencies. Never mind.

I live in central Florida, I used to live in Saint Lucie County, in Port Saint Lucie it self. The only part of the state I haven't been to is the Miami areas(I used to live about 2 hours from there) I don't really like it here. It may be because I live in the middle of the state, or because I have lived here my whole life, but I don't like it too much. I mean, yes there are some really nice places here like Desoto beach, but to be honest I don't enjoy heat and sand and salt water. I am not generalizing, I am speaking from experience. Also, those inland waters are useless unless you want to be eaten.

this reminds me of a weird story. two years ago i built a miniature rov, which is basically a remote-controlled submarine with a camera. one day i took it to a public dock that me and my friends used to go swimming at a lot in the summer. for some reason the water was fairly deep there and none of us had ever touched or seen the bottom. so it took the rov about 5 minutes to reach the bottom of the lake, and when it got there, we found just this: http://i1018.photobucket.com/albums/af305/bananafred/bench2.png http://i1018.photobucket.com/albums/af305/bananafred/bench.png after inspecting it a little, then we thought we saw something cool under the bench, so for some stupid reason i decided it would be a great idea to pilot the rov under it. of course, it got stuck under there, and the video feed broke up (as it turns out, the water broke through the pressure seals and fried the camera) so we started pulling the cable up, hoping that we weren't just going to pull the wires out of the rov and lose it forever. luckily, the wires held, and the video recorder was on land so i got some cool shots of the bench! of course this picture is way cooler than my story, but i just thought i'd share
