I had a friend in high school in the early 90's that started his own 'zine as they used to say, w/ band interviews etc - called 'The Ugly Munchkin'. Intestingly, in the book, Nick Chopper was just a normal lumberjack until an evil witch puts a curse on his axe (because his future father-in-law doesn't want him to marry his daughter). The axe then cuts off his legs and arms, forcing him to get a metal body made by the local tin smith. If what happened in this image happened in the book, it wouldn't surprise me. Also, Nick Chopper later on slaughters fourth some odd crows and a couple dozen wolves.
