I actually used to see this all the time when I worked for a company that built and sold handicap vans. Whenever the mechanics or the sales people would have to drive around a vehicle that was designed to hold a wheelchair in place of the driver's seat, they would use something like this. Probably not the safest approach, but they did it all the time anyway.

Had a car in the shop once, woulda been arounnnnnd......1992. Was a mid-60s GTO, in rough shape. The seat was a milk carton. The plastic boxes that hold jugs of milk. Sat on it, stepped on the gas, let out the clutch, and hit my head on the floor where the rear seat cushion should have been.

My brain thought my sensory input were being deceived by some reflection and could not fathom what it was seeing. It wasn't until I tried to make it consider that maybe, just maybe, the chair was actually inside not a wield reflection that I noticed it... and now I can't see how I perceived it as a reflection to begin with.

So a friend of me gets this Porsche Motor (~160PS) in his original Beetle, which I was rewiring the whole electrics to, as he thought ripping out the cables (basically no copper left in the car) and replacing the nicely color-coded ones with plain black ones would give it a special touch. Anyways, the first time the motor started was at a stage where there hasn't been anything major back in it after the full respraying of the whole body. Think of a chair like the one in the picture, the steering wheel and shift-stick. So he decides to have a test drive on the road. Off he went for a couple of minutes, only to come back with this story: He was just out of the small village and really hit it, as you probably would. Chair went with him to the back and he tried to hold himself to the steering wheel. Which he didn't fixate in his excitement of the first drive. Tractor ahead, ramming the wheel on again just in time and saving the day. I laughed my ass off.

You know, I actually drove a car riding in a folding chair once. My friend's wheelchair ran out of batteries while he was in the park, and I had to drive his van down to pick him up. It was scary as hell, if I accelerated too quickly the seat slid back and I'd have to readjust while moving. Not recommended as normal means of transport.
