Seeing as that's actually what's supposed to happen, it would suck if he died, then they could just send in a suicide bomber instead...

The gif depicts it quite accurately as an attack on his part, the thing he's swinging is the Speznaz' "Magic Stick"... definitely one of those things one might want to avoid being on the business end of, wherever possible.
