Good quote. I upvoted.

However, if you'll pardon my soapbox...

Irrational people CAN be reasoned with. When you argue with someone, your facts and reasoning percolate into their subconscious. When you raise up points that other people can't respond to, and when you absolutely destroy the talking points that they bring up, you plant the seeds of doubt in their mind. They may not immediately give in to their views, and they may never admit that you're right, but you truly can get to people.

If religious people didn't have an ounce of reason inside of them, then Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens would never have scared the religious establishment. The number of atheists in this country would NEVER have doubled since the 1990s if reason didn't penetrate the subconscious.

I don't know about anyone else in this subreddit, but I have argued people down to where they have nothing left to say but "shut up!" in an agitated tone. The fact that they are agitated, and the fact that they have nothing left to say, along with the fact that THEY KNOW THEY HAVE NOTHING LEFT TO SAY, means that you truly left an impact on them. You've given them a germ that will only fester and grow. You've given them self-doubt.

Every little bit of information that I learn in this subreddit is a potential weapon that will wear down their armor. The armor that irrational people wear seems very sturdy, but it's only a facade, and it wears off surprisingly easily. I hope you all remember this.

This was so much cooler when the show posted it on national television.

But then who would we spend our day having heated arguments with?

Each other, maybe? They'd be on how to better advance our scientific knowledge!

Yes. At least according to this christian website. http://liturgical.wordpress.com/2008/07/25/god-hugh-laurie-and-house-md/

Highly likely. He's platonic life-mates with Stephen Fry.

House is too pessimistic.

There are way too many stories I've seen here of people who used to be extremely religious but who were reasoned with, and over time found their way to atheism.

It's worth keeping up the fight.

This again?!

I thought there was a mechanism to stop the same link from being posted more than once within 3 months... this account is 2 months old and I've seen this way too many times.

With almost 400,000 members(200,000 that have joined in the past few months) I think this is still new to many people.

I joined in the past few months, and this is in no way new to me, probably seen it at a rate of once a week at this point.

The point of the 3 month mechanism is so that exactly this doesn't happen, it's not a challenge to try harder to karma whore.

I'm going to come clean and I say that I post this every few months just to troll. House's face makes it all the more funnier. I never expect it to get more than 10 upvotes, but I was genuinely surprised when I got all the way to 60. Just goes to show how many new members we get every few weeks.
