My question to you is; are you so ignorant that you think all Christians hate gays?

That's not what I said, is it? Do you always assign strawman arguments to people?

I just find it repulsive when Christians whine about how horribly persecuted they are. You're welcome to move to some shithole Islamic theocracy if you want to actually be oppressed for being a Christian.

I posted what I did because it repulses me that the response to people saying "here's a place I'm not alone" is to post a violent image and play the victim. Christians on reddit don't face violence.

mine was in response to http://imgur.com/n3mFv. It was simply humor, it was not intended to be a complaint.

Solution: stop espousing indefensible beliefs.

And the Big Bang theory can be proven?

There's certainly a great deal more evidence to support it than there is of any god.

Also: make sure you know what theory means before you attempt to denigrate it.

there was plenty of evidence then to support that the universe revolved around the earth. my point is; what will be "true" about science in 500 years?

Something new, I'm guessing. The fact that science updates its knowledge as better methods of experimentation and observation become available isn't a weakness in the method. It's a strength. Likewise, just because religion has been saying the same thing for thousands of years doesn't make it a strength, it means it isn't capable of assimilating new information.

If you form an opinion on Monday and maintain it on Wednesday in spite of events that happen on Tuesday to dispute it, it means you're closed-minded and incorrect.

I guess I don't understand the militant atheist point of view. I understand that some people just don't believe, that's cool with me, I'm not going to try to change your mind, and I respect your freedom to believe what you want. what I don't understand is why 90% of atheists I know are so dead set on proving me wrong as a Christian. without being snarky, I am honestly curious, and perhaps you could shed light on this for me.

Because you believe something that you can't verify, and you do everything in your power to armor that belief against anything that might challenge it. In the process, you armor your beliefs against reality, which makes you vulnerable to manipulation or misinterpretation. And if someone manipulates you or you misinterpret something, there's no evidence in the world that will convince you otherwise. That makes you dangerous not just to yourself, but to those around you.

You have the right to believe whatever you choose. You do not have the right to espouse those beliefs publicly and not have them challenged.

once again. the big bang theory cannot be proven

So what? Science doesn't operate on absolutes. Science operates with degrees of certainty. We have a high degree of certainty that the big bang theory is valid because of the mountain of evidence that supports it, and continues to support it. We even have growing certainty as to how it could have started, explanations that still have no need of gods.

On the other hand, we have no evidence to support the existence of gods. We have no observations that have held up to scrutiny, no experiments that revealed any sort of divine influence. We can't rule out the possibility of gods with absolute certainty, but again, that's not how it works. All we can say is that we have extremely low certainty that gods exist. The universe simply doesn't need any.

If the answer is, as some claim, that the gods hiding in the gaps of our knowledge don't want to be found, then we have no reason to be concerned about them. I see no point in worshiping a trickster god who deliberately lies to us.

It takes more faith for you to reject Zoroastrianism. Mithra will punish you greatly, unless you take an arrow in the knee.

Counts have put the # of Christian sects alone at 38,000.

Ignoring that and dealing only with the 20 major religions in the world, 'Even if we knew one was true, and that this was God's multiple choice test,' you should expect to go to hell simply as a matter of probability (roughly quoting Sam Harris, who dealt with the number of 3k world religions I think)

They can't all be true. And it seems to me that it is a very silly deity indeed that would condemn folks for choosing the wrong one, or none of the above — most often based on where they were born. Also, as it's been pointed out before, do you expect your God to be impressed by the cheap trickery of just sticking with religion because you've got nothing to lose and everything to gain?

sigh is this actually NSFW and just not marked, or is the web filter here just aggressive?

The web filter is aggressive, unless you object to polar bears feeding on a seal.

Oh, okay. I hate it when that happens. It was all "You're looking at freaking porn!". Maybe it's a site-wide thing.

Being surrounded by polar bears (and often the state of nature itself) might not be safe for life, but I really don't think you're going to get in trouble at work for laying your eyes upon this scene.

Probably not, but the web filter actually blocked it. Wouldn't let me see it at all. This is why I like imgur.
