Yummm (tip: if you're with someone, split an order of fries)

[–]JaggedOne 6 points7 points ago

One small order of fries at 5 guys is enough for 3 hungry people.

na, I've managed the Dreaded large brown bag of chips and burger holy crap was amazing.

I was at the one in Brandon Canada through.

As an Englishman no burger compares to that back home.

I second this.

Or, take the left over fries home and pop them in the oven for about 5 minutes when you're ready to eat them again.

Protip: You can ask for a side of cajun seasoning for your fries, burger or dog

"I made too much fries for your order but not enough for the next, would you like the extra scoop?"

Felt like I started to reached toxic levels of potato that night.

Shit did they actually tell you that? They just throw a bucket of fries in the bag, then throw another bucket of fries unbucketed on top of that and the burger here.

[–]MisterCurtis 1 point2 points ago

The bag wouldn't close all the way and by the time we got home it was translucent.

I never understood the big deal with Five Guys. I was excited to try In and Out when I was in Vegas a few month ago and was equally disappointed. Sure, they were both better than McDonalds or Burger King, but that's about it.

[–]x3nopon 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Because that is all they are supposed to be, both chains are still fast food at the end of the day. You can go to a burger restaurant and get a better one and have a beer, but it costs more.

Anyone that's ever been to five guys will know that this post is a massive understatement.

I must disagree. I found their burgers to be mediocre and WAY overpriced.

[–]jcg344 8 points9 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I thought the burger and fries were good, but I agree with it being overpriced. I paid $12 and some change for a cheeseburger, some fries and a coke. It wasn't THAT good.

I think the prices might be location based, i was visiting my brother in Virgina last Christmas and that same setup ran me about 7 bucks.

How come it is impossible to talk about five guys without some asshole mentioning in n out? Fuck off, we are talking about five guys in here, go start a new thread elsewhere if you wanna jerk off to in n out.

Saving this reply to paste into every 5 guys thread I see going forward. I don't go into In 'n Out burger threads and talk about how much worse it is than 5 guys... Plus I'm just jealous because I live on the east coast and the travel cost to get in 'n out is prohibitive

[–]devllen05 -1 points0 points ago

Heyyy somebody's a little bitter. Sorry breh - Five Guys has absolutely nothing on In N' Out.

[–]iForcefield 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

There is no In N' Out in Austin...possibly even Texas for that matter. I notice the main consensus here is that In N' Out is probably overrated and we don't give a shit about it.

[–]CorkyKribler 7 points8 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

There's an In N' Out in Dallas. Also, while I fully respect your opinion, I've had both 5Gs and In N' Out, and while Five Guys is pretty dang good, In N' Out is ridiculous. I implore you to try it.

I'm from Ventura, CA but I now live in Lincoln, NE, and whenever I go back home, I eat it. I always tell myself, "Don't get too excited, it's probably not as good as you're making it out to be." But it's always even better.

[–]austinnameguy 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I've tried 5 Guys here in Austin, it was de-licious but kinda expensive. This weekend the wife and I went to Dallas and happened to drive by the in-and-out. I had heard so much about it, had to give it a shot. It was verrry good, but the burger was way smaller and way cheaper. Pretty sure I got a cheeseburger, fries and a drink for like 5-6 bucks. Paid 5 bucks for the burger alone at 5 guys.

TL:DR Five Guys is a bigger and better burger. In-n-Out, cheap and delicious. If I HAD to compare in-n-out to something in Austin I'd say imagine smaller fuddrucker burger's with thinner patties that only cost like $2-3 per burger.

[–]iForcefield 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Your reply was calm and collected. I stand corrected on the location of In N' Out and you receive an upvote. For final verification of how little my opnion truly means - I'm a vegetarian and haven't eaten five guys (let alone a burger at all) in years.

[–]CorkyKribler 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

(I have a secret. I've a vegetarian, too, but I still eat In N' Out whenever I go back home! Shhhhhh. Don't tell! :)

I've tried In N' Out and it is shit. Enough said. Its just popular because of clever advertising.

No bro, nectar is the drink of the gods.

ambrosia is the food of the gods.

So you would say: "It is the ambrosia of the gods."

Also there is a place in Seattle called Lunchbox Laboratory's, which has an item that is named "Burger of the Gods" and its better than 5 guys.

[–]shifty1776 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

While that is true about ambrosia and nectar, let's be honest here, who says ambrosia when referring to something amazing.

[–]dipittydoop -4 points-3 points ago

You're wrong. WRONG I TELL YOU. Whopper from Burger King > In N' Out Burger.

[–]socatevoli 0 points1 point ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

In N Out is kinda like what a fast food burger joint (like mickey D's) SHOULD be, but never was or ever will be (as far as the price to quality ratio is concerned). It's a shame there aren't more of them in the United States.. the East coast in general.

EDIT: Five Guys is in a higher tier as far as the ratio of price to quality is concerned, I think it's called "casual dining" as opposed to 'fast food', same tier as Chipotle. So all the Five Guys VS In N Out arguments you see are quite pointless.. almost like trying to compare Taco Bell with Chipotle.

[–]strallweat 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah I'm in Miami. I went to In N Out's website and it couldn't even show a location when I put my zip code in.

Five Guys is fairly overrated (and expensive) IMHO. There are several places I can think of off the top of my head that make a much better burger.

Have you had the Fully Loaded Five Guys Hot Dog? It's a regular Five Guys Hot Dog with a lot of Mayo and then after you get it, open it and start eating it, 5 employees run toward you and smother you with more mayonnaise.

wait, what? Maybe I'm spoiled by in n out, but 5 guys was just too bland for me. I get grilled onions on a cheeseburger and it just tasted really average. The quality was all there, but it needed salt or something, i have no idea. Boring i think would be the best way to describe it.

Even I have to admit though, 5 guys have the best fries of any burger franchise I think I have ever been to.

[–]_Particle_Man_ 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

i find both of their burgers (in n' out and 5 guys) unimpressive. i dont see what the big deal is with either of them.

[–]sciarrillo 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Interesting, I dunno if I've ever met anyone who felt that way. Which place makes your favorite burger? (If you're anything like me it's yourself)

[–]_Particle_Man_ 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

now dont get me wrong, i dont dislike their burgers and they are better than the usual fast food chains like McD's or BK, but as far as fast food burgers go i would prefer Whataburger (which isnt available nation wide either). they are similar in taste to in n' out, except are WAY bigger and have all the options you can do at in n' out and then some.

but the best one (around here in phoenix) is a local place Hamburger Works.

unfortunately my Grill-fu skills are weak.

Have to agree. Five Guys burgers aren't all that special. It always tastes like it's missing something. But at least its not like Johnny Rockets... their burgers make my stomach want to turn inside out and scrub itself clean.

[–]footfall -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'm gonna guess they use less MSG at Five Guys than your average burger joint, which is that 'needed something I can't quite describe' element.

[–]sciarrillo -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

In n out doesn't use msg...

[–]hairyotter -2 points-1 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

that's not even the half of it. not only does in n out taste way better, it is literally one third of the price

Smash burger is better.

[–]indiggnantuser -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I tried Five Guys when they came to the Central Valley in California and my burger turned into a soggy mop of sauce and bun in the first minute. Then I angrily ate half, was discontent at the texture, which reminded me of boiled cucumbers with the graininess of meat, and threw it away. I wish I could share in your joy, but sadly texture is almost as important to me as flavor.
