The camera zooms in closer and closer causing me to lol louder each time. I'm sick.

That's the 'play' version.

I have seen that kind of thing a lot with kittens playing, and the claws are never out -- notice the stiff arms that pretty much guarantee that there is no force behind the hit.

It looks more like the cat used 'intimidation' and then was bummed it didn't work.

(I had a bunch of cats when I was little so I am pretty used to cat play modes)

I just love how the cat looks all guilty afterwards.

either the cat was being nice and not using claws (my cats do this sometimes, they just "bap!" or the cat has been declawed, which is fucked up and really bad for the cat overall.

It might be bad for the cat, but it's probably better for that kids face.

Cats that are declawed sometimes have radically different behavior than cats with claws. I believe they are actually more likely to be aggressive. Definitely more likely to bite.

Is declawing something commonly done? I know it's definitely not a thing here in Ireland. I'm sure it's done under anaesthetic etc, but it doesn't sound pleasant and would definitely throw the cat off its instincts after.. I'm imagining not having nails here.

Edit: Word.

I had my cat declawed. They were put under anesthesia, yes, and the claws were removed with a laser, though I know they used to be removed by simply ripping them out. It was done when our cat was still young, and she has not changed at all, though, she's just as talkative and as heavy-footed as she ever was.

Not only that but they are much mor defensive because you have taken away their method of escape/protection. They become more aggressive as a result and are on average alot more stressed out.

If that cat had claws then its highly possible that it would have been put down for tearing up a babies face. Which would have you preferred?

If a cat wants to hurt you, you'll know it. Declawing won't stop any bites.

Kittens tend to bite more than use their claws too. I wonder is it because their claws are physically underdeveloped or just because they don't have hand paw-eye coordination yet.
