This happened to me too during a class when a substitute instructor was trying to learn our names. Every so often he would point at you and say your name out loud, waiting for a response and hoping he got it right. He messed mine up twice before the third time I felt bad and just accepted my new name. He would say hi to me in the hallway and my friends would stand awkwardly wondering who he was talking to while I scratched the back of my head uncomfortably.

This happened to me on my first day of college.
"You'll notice there's a new girl in class today" "Hi Nicole!" ok...correct them now and avoid awkwardness "Umm...hi..." i hate myself Apparently "new girl" sounds like Nicole".
