Not if he doesn't stay dead. Then it's just a failed suicide attempt.

So, still technically a "sin"? This whole thing just sounds like such a crock of shit. I cant understand why people who call themselves rational would believe this.

It's easy! All you need to do is merrily discard your critical thinking faculties.

He sacrificed himself, not just suicide.

I was told yes, he did commit suicide, therefore he went to hell, but was resurrected by god and forgiven of his sin, therefore we can be forgiven of our sin.

This was exactly how it was explained to me.

He was resurrected by god...i.e. himself? So he resurrected himself? I was taught the same thing in Sunday school. I just wish I was 20 instead of 7 at the time so I could just look at the teacher and tell them what a crock of shit it sounds like.

edit:clarification.

Just some information about the "sin" of suicide: Yes, the Bible does reject suicide as a sin, on the basis that believers do not have the right to take what belongs to God (their own lives). However, there has been a shift in this belief due to greater understanding of mental illness. By no means is this shift universal, but many open-minded Christians accept it.

So this is why his burial went so wrong.

Within the whole context of "God": God can't truly die, so no. Also, he was able to make it so not only was the experience painless, the whole thing felt good. Each time he was whipped he made it feel like the greatest orgasm ever.

Suicide loophole: sacrifice yourself to Yahweh!

Haha, if only we could say "I told you so".

Well it depends, because not every Christian believes that it really was monotheism but rather polytheism. So, it could be that the denominations that belief he wasn't God could be the same ones who say "suicide" is a sin? Still, I think Jesus'd be in Hell anyway.

Here is something and just hear me out. If the Christian belief is that God sent himself to Earth to save the human race then I think this is a good example. A fireman who runs into a burning building because he knows there are innocent lives at risk. He knows that he will most likely die while he is in there. But he still does it because even if there is a small chance to save one life it was worth it. Now does that sound like suicide?

But if he committed suicide, then he can't go to heaven.
