I could not finish it, hell I could not get very far into it, it reminded me to much of the "retreats" I had to go on in Catholic High-School. They were not remotely as bad, but were in the same vain and just far to similar.

I remember the room being so hot in the "hour" (10pm-2am is not an hour) long adoration that I felt like I was going to have a heat stroke. One of my classmates began talking in tongues and shaking and all I could think was that she only drank mountain dew all day, we were on top of a mountain, and it was blistering hot in the room. I doubt there was any divine explanation behind that.

At the time things did not seem super weird like they did when I saw that movie. It was odd but only religion, no big deal... That movie, and seeing that happen on such a worse scale to little kids made me physically ill.

If I had to pin down a moment that I began to get weary of Catholicism I would point to that retreat. It disgusted me afterwards, and disturbed me, and it was worse because I caught myself seeing things and believing things that I knew could not be real (read I had a hallucination of talking to god and seeing him, I felt manipulated and resentful when I realized I fell for the same things that some of my classmates did).

Two years later at the same place, I went from a Wiccan to a Catholic again and then about a day later when I could think, and looked back, yet again from the outside in. I felt pissed, and manipulated, I realized the insanity of all these things and just could not do it anymore.

Jesus Camp hit a little to close to home for me. The whole thing is just so disgusting whether its large or small, manipulation and psychological abuse is horrible and the hall marks of organized religion.

I was forced to one of these camps because I told my parents I didn't believe in god. I stood my fucking ground and didn't pray or lit go of my atheism once despite all the shit they put me through.

It's weird, Jesus Camp horrified me precisely because it didn't horrify me the first time I watched it -- I grew up in the Bible Belt and a lot of what these kids and adults were saying was par for the course, stuff I'd heard at church or over the dinner table or whatever. Then I realized that I'd normalized this sort of thing and was appropriately nauseous.

I only managed to see about half of it, I had to turn it off or I would have put my foot through the TV.

These people are truly evil, brainwashed idiots. And yes, I do include the children in that.

Its kind of strange but in my family we have this game where if anyone says the title of that movie out loud they get punched in the chest by another family member as hard as they can. I have not spoken those two words since i was 12...

I come from Iceland, where most people are atheists or agnostics and don't go to church, except for weddings and funerals, but most people do that just to pay respect, not because of faith. I realized that the evangelists in America are a bit extreme after reading some posts on r/atheism but this shocked me so much, the ignorance of scientific research is so tremendous I almost just want to go there and make a change. This is not going to end well.
