  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

I said this on another case only 3 or 4 days ago: what are the circumstances? Why should we out a grown woman? How do we know you are who you say you are and that your intentions are good?

The police are involved. There appears to be an investigation underway. You probably should take care not to adversely impact it.

If this is real, I certainly don't envy your situation. However, I won't help locate someone like this. There needs to be a vetting process.

Don't post any information that could be used against her (and this can be hard know). You don't want to give any advantage to party that may be working against your efforts. Consider how the information may be useful for extortion, blackmail, disinformation by perps, etc.

I have a coworker that had a pet tarantula for years. I absolutely would not touch it when she brought it to work. It died last year and after years of thinking I couldn't feel sympathy for a dead tarantula...she was so devastated that I couldn't help but feel seriously regretful that the thing was dead.

Bright side; she got a pet snake in replacement and I handle that thing all the time when she brings it in. It's a pretty kickass pet.

If they know her personally and I hope they seriously do, they would know whether or not she is capable of coming back home. If she was smart she would do her best to defend herself from any harm and come back home to her family immediately. She sounds like she was loved by her friends, family, and close ones so I would assume that she would do her best to reach out to those group of people. Hopefully, she is alive and well.

This is a pretty legit reason to not allow these kinds of posts, but at the same time there should be a way to have exceptions to such a rule if there is some form of verification about the situation (because in any case, this sort of thing on reddit can do a lot of good if it is legitimate and there really is a person missing).

Actually, on top of the above reason, Reddit is not a search and rescue. Those things should largely be left to the police in cases of missing persons. They will take appropriate action (such as alerting local news, which they have done already.) The guy in South Africa reading Reddit has no need to see the reports for every missing person in Mississippi. There are subreddits for communities and this sort of post that are created for this very reason. Those are also the best bet of actually being useful.

That's actually a perfect example of why they should not be posting that here. /r/Spacedicks (NSFL) exists so people can post that type of content. If they posted it here they would likely find themselves banned immediately. The subreddit system exists for customization for the user and so they can see the type of content they like to see. Whether you agree with them or not, unfortunately not every person in /r/pics cares about every missing person in the world at any given moment. However, I'm sure the people in /r/Arkansas would be more than happy to assist in any way possible.

Reddit is not a charity fundraiser either but it does a pretty good job at it. Obviously the police should be contacted but the family should be exploring every option available to them. I'm betting the front page sees a lot more traffic from the people of Arkansas than /r/Arkansas does. It's a very textbook example of the tragedy of the commons. It may help when one person does it, but if it becomes the norm it will have a serious adverse effect on the website. Like it or not, unfortunately not every person wants to see those posts, or even cares if people are missing. The people that do care are best off subscribing to the appropriate subreddit(s); and instead of advertising a missing persons here, you can advertise those subreddits. Posting a missing persons in /r/pics is really not much different than posting about your recently deceased pet in /r/awww; people really don't go there to see that kind of stuff, and it's kind of offensive to some of them to throw your burdens at them, even if you do so with the best intentions.

I see your point but isn't that what the voting system is for? If people are tired of seeing missing person posts, they will downvote, or at least refrain from upvoting, so the posts won't hit the front page. If the community wants to help, it will. Which seems to be the case at the moment. Maybe /r/pics isn't the best choice for this, but without a catch-all subreddit that gets a lot of traffic, I can't blame the poster. I'd be doing everything I could if I was in the same position.

No. Rule 3, no personal information. As good as your intentions probably are, this is the Internet and it is anonymous. For all we know this person doesn't want to be found and you are trying to find her for malicious reasons. I'm sorry and I don't want to be "that guy", but those are the rules and they are in place for very good reasons.

You're entirely right, and I can't find the words to express how frustrating it is that this kind of thing is being encouraged. We have nothing to go on to suggest that OP is related to this girl other than their word.

I really hope you find her and that she's all right. I just want to say that I understand how you must be feeling. My cousin went missing a few months ago (I had also turned to reddit for help), so I know how scary this kind of thing is. After no word for weeks, I had assumed the worst and I didn't know if I'd ever see him again, but eventually he contacted some relatives and said that he had run away and was safe. So I just want you to know that you shouldn't give up hope, things may turn out all right. I hope that they do, and that your cousin is safe wherever she is. Best of luck to you. You really should post her details on that pic AND put more pics, it's hard to recognize someone from one picture.

Most people won't lift a finger to do the detective work, but I can tell you they'll remember her face way better on reddit than if they saw her in a poster on the street.

That at least gives a chance of being seen and recognized.
