As a side note, I used to own a Northern Pacific rattlesnake. The kind with that fun ol' hemotoxic venom. Since she was wild caught, she would only eat live mice. I've had a few of these kinds of moments during feeding time with her.

The thing that leaves me horrified is that the rat was probably not a rat intended for feeding purposes. It was probably a fancy rat. Those are rats that are bred to be pets. They're docile and have the temperament of dogs. I know because I've had them as pets since I was twelve. They're personable and not at all like wild rats or rats that are used for feedings. And as someone who owns pets like that it horrifies me to think that someone went to a pet store and purchased an animal that thrives off of human attention, plays games and is amazingly affectionate, and allowed it to be killed in such a way. The fear it must have experienced makes my stomach roll.

Granted I only saw the gif for a few moments and closed the window immediately. So I didn't get a good look at the rodent. But whatever it was, it was probably purchased at a pet store. I guess the comparable for some people would be...like buying a kitten and bringing it home and killing it to feed to your dog.

This isn't the most wtf thing I have ever seen. But it's certainly something that has made me hate people just a little bit more.

People who do this shit really piss me off. I'm not a super animal lover/activist, but if you can kill the mouse/frog/whatever beforehand, why not?

And don't give me any shit about it's better for the animal's digestion, most of the time that's just BS.

EDIT: for all of the uninformed here, you can purchase freshly killed/frozen feeder animals. It took me two seconds to google this. You can try to make this into a "toughen up this is how nature works" argument. But show me where in nature you take an animal out of it's natural environment, put it in a cage and then deliver domesticated animals from the sky that have no chance or hope of getting away.

And I've killed more animals than any other person commenting here, so I'm not some bleeding heart, I just believe that animals should be sacrificed humanely if possible. Silly me, I work under a code of ethics that govern how these animals are treated, and I don't go around and post videos of it on youtube. People feed their animals live stock because they want to see it be eaten.

Wait, what? Does this genuinely shock everybody? I hate to break it to you, but that's nature for you. Predator eats prey. Turtles have powerful jaws for a reason. This is hardly NSFL; this is the kind of thing you see on the nature channel as a kid.
