so fun relevant tidbit. the dark knight was being filmed outside my friends apt. he said in between scenes he'd see heath ledger in full costume riding up and down the street on a skateboard while smoking a cigarette looking creepy as FUCK. i don't remember if he said he has a picture or not. i'll text him right now to see if he does. update to come!

There were always conflicting reports about how "method" Ledger was. Generally, I think people said that he could fall in and out of character on set; he wasn't like Bale or Day-Lewis, how they stay in character all the time. I think Ledger was trying to relax a little bit, separate himself from The Joker.

Don't know about that. But we are talking about the actor who shut himself up alone for weeks(?) to document his thoughts and prepare himself for the character.

Anyway, it just seems like a cool thought. I can totally imagine Heath's Joker just skateboarding through the street...

I feel like he would have to, I do partially blame his death on his giving in so completely to the character and it permanently damaging him. I mean, it has to be dangerous being so method with any character, but especially one as messed up and twisted as the Joker.

It's an interesting theory, except Ledger wasn't just off playing the Joker when he died; he was in the middle of playing the charismatic antihero in Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

He would skateboard around on set as other people pointed out. I don't think Ledger was a Day-Lewis-esque method actor. He didn't feel obliged to stay in character at all times.

At least in this interview with Griffin Collins it sounds like that skateboard pic might be real. Or at least a real one exists somewhere.

How did you react when you heard Heath had died?

"I still think about how crazy it is that the dude is gone. When I used to skate around Carrol Gardens, I always used to think of the slope on Bergen St. btw Court St. and Smith St. as "Heath's Hill".

This was right after he passed away. I was skating just about every day and knew that Ledger had also loved to skate. I know he had also had fun bombing the same streets. He was a good actor that died tragically and this was just my little way of remembering his spirit.
