  • No game or product giveaway of any kind

  • NSFW submissions and comments must be labeled

  • Spoilers can be posted using the following formatting:

Its funny but I don't think there's anything wrong with saying "fire a bow". You would also say "fire a gun" just as much as you would say "fire a bullet"

"Fire" in the sense of discharging a weapon never existed until the rise of gunpowder weapons. Then it became used in the sense of "Put fire to a fuse" or "Put fire to it".

Eventually the phrase devolved to "Fire". The phrase historically attributed to a bow would be "Loose" or "Let Fly" or some such.

Or you touch fire to the fuse at the base of the cannon to ignite the gunpowder and launch a cannonball... or we could ask the dictionary

I think saying 'fire a bow' implies he has multiple bows, and he's firing one of them. While 'fire his bow' or something else that implies singularity makes more sense.

if you hold onto the string and release the bow, then yes, but if you release the string, it would fly forward

If you held the bow only by the string with the bow-stave held forward by placing the point of the arrow in the middle of it, then released the string and held the arrow you could achieve this effect.
