Honestly I think it's mostly due to the fact that both pairs of legs appear to be facing in, towards the center, instead of both facing forward. This blocks you from empathizing with it as a four-legged mammal which it otherwise somewhat resembles.

I wonder if it's possible to teach a horse to ice skate? Like if you were to strap a pair of skates on it's hooves from birth and than just release it into the wild and let it grow big. Imagine how cool that would be to just see that one horse gliding around all the time.

Nope. Horses do something called "tracking up", which means that their back feet usually step exactly where their front feet just did. The horse would cut the absolute hell out of itself. Some horses already do this with their own hooves, it's called over reaching, and they cut the hell out of themselves with their own hooves.
