You couldn't admit to being an Atheist in Germany. And by the time he got out, it was kinda late for someone to open his eyes, even for someone as brilliant as Einstein.
He didn't believe in a personal God. And that isn't what the picture is implying anyway. It's showing people with a love for free thought and science.
