I posted it on the parent but here you go:

My old roommate was a special ed teacher. She told me all her stories. One time she was at the beach with her clients (She called the handicapped people she worked with clients) when a particularly aggressive one started darting toward a stranger. My roommate had to run after the client and tackle him before he reached the stranger. Apparently the client was going to run into the stranger and punch him in the face. She regularly came home with a bruised body and black eyes.

I'm going to hell but I was sort of expecting a punchline when somebody asked for a story.

I once had a student poop in my classroom and proceed to tell me it wasn't him. In his words.. "I was framed!!!". Gotta love it.

well i'm not about to go screaming their first and last names around every public place I can, but i will tell a story about a "student i once had". typically these are the most frustrating and joyous moment of the job. if i didn't share the love, i'd quit and develop a drug problem.

Bet he doesn't, but his point is that the mental anguish would be severly less if there was an excuse. So much, that effectively worse working condition would actually feel less bad.

Arguably this is subjective, some people prefer it the other way round, because they use rightous anger as release, which you can't, if the person isn't practically "at fault".

But either way, I think it is rarely "what happens", that is the cause for our anguish, but the comparision with hyptheticals to our lot. So maybe you think "boy I could have a job where I don't get bitten". But he thinks "boy, if all the people who are retarded weren't here...." . He argues that actually KNOWING that the people he had to deal with WERE mentaly handicapped, and society would concur with him, he wouldn't expect better, and therfore suffer less.

[–]thisisATHENS 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Of course its subjective, but it opens you up to a whole new line of "excuses". Not everyone who is put in special ed has some genetic disease they/their parents lack control over.

Boy howdy, you said it. One kid pooped twice today. Although, this was a kindergarten class and he was supposedly housebroken. (hint: this was why it was surprising)

[–]thisisATHENS 0 points1 point ago

Of course you can't beat them, but depending on where you work, there are protocols to handle them in a proper way.

It's not the whole truth though. You have to work with the special needs students as well as special needs administration and teachers. So you have to deal with it from all sides.

A teacher I work with got a card from the ELL teacher. The card was resting ON TOP of it's sealed envelope and her name was written upside down on said envelope and spelled wrong. You may be thinking, oh she much have been stressed and made a mistake... no. ALL of the cards she handed out were like that.

[–]Kandarian 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Was the ELL teacher an ELL? Maybe it was a cultural thing combined with stupid, making it doubly idiotic.

[–]mootiechazam 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Sadly no, just stupid.

She also somehow managed to forward an email to all of the teachers who have students in her program about her personal improvement plan. I don't really understand how you can accidentally forward an email, but apparently it is possible.

[–]Cavalawhoo 3 points4 points ago

It should read "I wish I were a special education teacher." Grammar fail.

This is amazing:

  • Kid: “You’re Samoan, right?”
  • Me: “Yeah.”
  • Kid: “How come you don’t have big earlobes?”
  • Me: “Am I supposed to?”
  • Kid: “Yeah! Don’t Samoans have big, hanging earlobes? Like, down to here.”
  • Me: “Never heard that one before.”
  • Kid: “Oh, I think I meant Buddhists. I confused Samoans with Buddhists, sorry.”
  • Me: “I don’t… think that’s right either.”

Only a very small percentage of people with autism excel at a certain subject, such as math or painting, they just tend to be the ones who get the most hype.

Why would you come onto r/funny if you don't have a sense of humor? It was just a joke...nothing to get butt-hurt over.

[–]mootiechazam 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

While funny, totally not true. Not only do you have to work with the special ed kids you also have to work with other idiot teachers and worst of all idiot administrators. So you get it from all sides. Sometime the effort of not smacking or strangling someone gets to be a little much.
