The funny thing is, is in actual gladiatorial fights, the thumbs up or thumbs down was performed at the end of a fight if a man was injured or trapped. Thumbs up actually meant kill him, and thumbs down meant to let him live.

Came here to say this too, but actually, thumbs up didn't mean anything, it'd be a thumb to the neck/throat, which meant kill him (As in sword to the neck). Thumb down meant put the sword in the ground, thus allowing him to live. Or at least that's what historians debate on.

Oh, okay. Thanks for the extra info, I knew that I had learned this a few years ago in my latin class, but couldn't remember exactly and was too lazy to actually look it up.

imgur has a limit of 2mb I think. It may explains some non-imgur links.

Or when you actually want to credit the original source of a pic, like flickr.

I thought we were talking about /r/Gifs and not all pictures in general.

I was just adding on to your statement. He/she did say image based subreddits, and I have seen people on here who downvote pictures just because they were not from imgur.

Except 99% of non-imgur links are blogspam of stolen content and reposts.

I'm disappointed this is actually an imgur link.

The lack of thumbnail nearly made me downvote...

So, you like images hosted on sites other than imgur? Thumbs down means approval.

My work firewall blocks pretty much every image host except for imgur

So I'm with you on this.

(The exception, as previously stated, is when crediting the original artist if they have a page)

But what about eho.st, that ethical site that links to sources?

Yeah, I hate browsing reddit on my phone because I actually have to visit the links instead of just showing the image. It takes much time and its really annoying.
