I forgot to look at Maggie.

[–]Lovtel 94 points95 points ago

I think that was intentional. It's why she was squished off to the side looking so unhappy and then she went, "BAM! PAY ATTENTION TO ME!" and became a rockstar because she needed a way to get the attention of which she was being starved.

The characters aging made look back on my own life and see and how others around me have aged as well. The feelings that I experienced were a mixture of nostalgia, sadness, and hope. Sad because there is no way to go back to the past, but hopeful for the future ahead.

[–]aenima1991 100 points101 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

i like your comment! I also think that a lot of the sadness comes from how bummed out we are that Bart becomes a piece of shit. We love and imortalize him as a representation of the mischievousness of youth. This series of images shows that a life wallowing in mischief proves hollow, depressed and uninspiring.

Lisa, the brilliant mind always dreaming and curious gets a typical businesswoman job as opposed to embracing her musical or artistic interests. She doesnt leave the town that is too small for her and that she has long since outgrown. She also marries Milhouse..enough said

[–]someguy945 23 points24 points ago

She also marries Milhouse..enough said

And if you saw the episode (or read this comment that you're reading right now), you also know that she has obvious bouts of regret and/or doubt about whether it was the right decision for her.

AND unlike the other "into the future" episodes of the Simpsons, this isn't a fortune telling or a daydream or anything. This is just a flash-forward.

You realize the Simpsons is the most inconsistent timeline of anything ever? Sometimes mr. Burns is in his 80's and sometimes he's 100+. I realize this is all for the sake of getting the joke to work, but still

[–]saskatch 47 points48 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The thing about the Simpsons is that there are conflicting realities. There are lots of episodes that jump to the future, but it is a different reality every time. Same with the setting. Springfield jumps around and you never know where you are. Its like all of the episode are parallel universes. So I guess I'm saying this isn't necessary the only reality for the Simpsons' future.

Perhaps in the Future.

Newer technologies in the Future may allow sex changes in a single day. Meaning transsexual people will be able to have the body they truly belong in in no time, and anyone can experience what it's like for the opposite sex, or anything in between.

Alternatively, Future technologies may be highly advanced machines that connect to your brain, and can make any fantasy feel like a reality. Fighting dragons as a lesbian Elf with a harem of women of every fantasy race staple? Of course! Fly around in a giant robot and beat up libertarian unicorns? No problem! Have the moon actually be cheese and eat the whole thing while chatting with a mouse? Why not!

All of this and more could be possibly in the Future!

So I bought a Blackberry Playbook a few weeks ago and decided that besides many other things, it would work well as one of those photoframe things that you can set up to randomly show your pictures. I paid the 99 cents for a decent app that would do it, and I was tickled pink at how well it worked. Well..

Wow, is it depressing to look at pictures. Don't get me wrong, they're all happy memories, but that's what makes it so difficult. All those moments that flash before you in digital form are snapshots of times you'll never get back. sigh.

Man, I have to tune in when that show airs. Haven't seen the series in quite a while, but I fucking loved it when I used to watch it. It's hard to believe such a cultural phenomenon can end... I mean fuck, it would be like if Nintendo made a final Mario or Zelda game.

[–]BullshitUsername 88 points89 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Somebody on Reddit mentioned their idea of the perfect ending of the show- at the end of the last episode, the screen goes blank and it pans out from a tv and Fry is watching the Simpsons archives in the year 3000. He turns of the tv, having just finished watching the entire series, and EDIT says something like, "They should've stopped this before I was frozen".

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

There's another one from Reddit about how the episode is the family trying to make a TV show for a competition or something, and at the end all 5 shows get chosen so they all run home and turn on the TV to watch it. And of course them running home to watch TV is the opening sequence for every episode so it's like we've been watching the end of the simpsons the entire time.

I've not put it together very well, but I remember reading it and thinking it was very good.

[–][deleted] 84 points85 points ago

[–]unsurebutwilling 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I think so too...There are and will always be stupid episodes, but all this bashing on later seasons is just not necessary. Especially as it appears, that all statements against later seasons are made by people who have not even seen all episodes and just assume they're bad.

The episode was absolutely brilliant. When I watched it earlier it had me laughing out loud. But seeing these pictures makes me sad. I was in the library at school studying for a test when I finished the last episode. Ran to the bathroom and cried. Worth it.

Skip everything from 2007-2009. This season has been the best in a while.

[–]Aristite 33 points34 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Somehow this feels canonical (even though it isn't) and this shows how the Simpsons do turn out in the future. Kind of feels like this is the last episode to air. Like a "The End, this is how the Simpsons' lives turn out". Anyone else get what I'm saying?

[–]anothergaijin 7 points8 points ago

Yes, very.

That would be just so perfect.

has anyone noticed Bart looks like Fry after he flunked out??? maybe it's because of his clothes......

[–]Squishumz 79 points80 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Art style.

[–]Sharp398 24 points25 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

He's wearing the same clothes, just with the red jacket rolled up at the sleeves. I think it was sort of intentional, to make them seem like very similar people.

[–]Banditosaur 7 points8 points ago

That's because this episode just aired on Sunday.

[–]Cheeseball701 12 points13 points ago

Oh, with the way the screen captures are compressed, it looks like the old art style.

Is this season worth watching? Last season had quite a few clunkers.

[–]thinker319 28 points29 points ago

this season has been really great

This is touching. I wasn't expecting the age progression.

[–]grapevined 30 points31 points ago

I had stopped watching the new Simpson's episodes for years, they just didn't have the magic of the old ones. I watched the new Christmas one on a fluke and damn, if the can still produce episodes of that quality, they may win me back. I don't know if they have new writers or what, but that episode was easily up there with the early-mid 90's ones.

[–]whereisthesun 37 points38 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

recently they have started to get a lot better. the most recent season and Ibelieve the one before that have been major improvements. Homer is once again a caring father instead of just an idiotic person.

[–]caprincrash 30 points31 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

So they stopped trying to be Family Guy? I might have to start watching again.

[–]Sarc222 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I find it funny how family guy initially tried to be the simpsons, then somehow, the tables turned around.

[–]KingRadon69 8 points9 points ago

I think the writers are constantly in flux.

I loved it. I enjoyed looking at the little differences, like Maggie growing up, and the picture behind the couch changing, or the couch itself changing. It was pretty cool to me at least :)

[–]cuntunderground 7 points8 points ago*

I loved the part where it showed all of Apu's children all grown-up.

Edit: Apu not Abu.

[–]Ranilen 15 points16 points ago

Apu. Abu is the monkey in Aladdin.

I don't care if the new episodes aren't as funny or even if they continue to get worse, I will be sad when this show ends.

[–]OhJayEee 6 points7 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I don't care what anyone says. Moments like this prove that the show still has merit.

She says 'Daddy' or 'Dada' at the very end of one episode when they're trying to make her talk. Homer says he hopes she never talks because then they start to talk back, or something, and when he leaves, she says it.

It's pretty cool, except for the fact that Bart and Lisa's kids look exactly like them. Creeped me out. Would've been cooler if they gave them traits from both parents

Did I seriously just get a boner for Lisa Simpson?

[–]Bugsybear 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

After having watched the Simpsons my entire childhood, and despite not having watched in a while, I am utterly surprised that it has taken me this long to realize Homer has a beard. The transition of Bart from stubble to looking like Homer is what did it.

I don't even know what I thought that light area around his mouth was if not a beard. Now I just feel kinda insecure and weird... WTF IS HAPPENING

[–]blart_history 3 points4 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Why does Lisa have a quadruple-hyphened last name at the end?

Edit: Better question... aren't Maggie and Marge both nicknames for Margaret?

[–]playingwithfire 2 points3 points ago
