I would like to point out that up until he entered the bull ring, that bull probably led the life of a king. Grass fed, plenty of pasture, maybe even a massage or two. The take very good care of the toros until they kill them. Now contrast that with the life of a meat cow: the average beefer in the US spends its short life living in its own shit, never going outside and being pumped full of antibiotics and growth hormones. It could be argued that milk cows have it even worse, since their miserable existences are drawn out over a longer period of time. I'm not saying I support bullfighting, but I am saying that if you are truly concerned about the ethical treatment of animals, start buying local, grass-fed, free range meat. Or stop eating it entirely.

First off I DO only buy grass fed beef - don't turn this into an argument it isn't. Secondly regardless of how this bull spent his days prior to the bullfight does not make up for what goes on for mere sport and entertainment. If they truly wanted it to be fair then A) they wouldn;t wound it prior to fight and B)the if the bull wins, it goes free, on to fuck as many sexy cows he can get a hold of. Just because they wear fancy fucking outfits they think it is majestic to torture the shit out of a bull for sport and it is disgusting. If someone in plain clothes just went out, without an arena, and tortured a dog or a duck, or bull or any other animal for no other reason than fun they would be looked at as a potential serial killer and arrested. I always cheer the bull in scenarios like this.

I completely disagree with you. Compared to the shitty low wage job that awaits most people, I think the bull has it pretty nice. Dies young, gets in to one last good fight, gores a few assholes, gets a shitton of grass and attention.
Also, for the record, a more accurate comparison would be a man going out and torturing or killing bears. There's social stigma related to killing dogs and other small animals because they're viewed as subservient, and weaker than humans. A bear, or a bull, is much stronger than any person could be, and thus it isn't viewed with as much negativity.
Last point; why do you cheer for the deaths of men with families and children, all for the sake of an animal?

I'm sure there are, but I don't agree with eating any meat if it's killed in a cruel way. Aren't there standards-checking companies in your country who have to do checks on your meat companies? I'm pretty sure we do in Ireland as I've seen programs on our TV showing such checks and mentioning the rules that companies have to follow.

Well, here in the lovely United States, we have the USDA that's either underfunded or funded by the companies that they're supposed to regulate. So no, there's very little regulation on animal conditions as long as the meat is cheap, mostly uncontaminated and widely available.
Naturally there's farmer's markets, which I generally trust for good meat. Difficult to tell, though, since butchering facilities vary.

Can and do are important distinctions. This guy COULD give society important or useful things. I, and many others, would argue that he DOES not. I come from a place where bullfighting is just a tradition like any other and people feel terrible about the people who get hurt keeping this tradition alive. Ever since I was little, I was the only one who loved people getting fucked by bulls like in these pictures and people, to date, would voice how weird I am. I love reddit, but never ocurred to me to ask how reddit would feel about this and now I know you guys agree it's fucking cruel and bullfighters get what they deserve. However, that only happens after the bull has been weakened by bullfighters on foot and horseback using bandeirilhas.
Also, another difference is that, whereas in Spanish bullfighting the bull is killed on the arena (by the matador) in Portuguese bullfighting the bull either dies off the arena or is turned into a breeding bull.

I feel we got off on the wrong foot here. Im not a touradas lover, but i do not mind them existing. Altough i would argue about the tax euros being used to sponsor/support. Riders and forcados are paid really badly (around 3 euros per person) riders a bit more. And most of the money earned by visitors/tv views, is payed directly to the farms that grow the bulls. I can understand your point of view, as everyone has theirs.

This picture doesn't make me cringe as much because of the simple fact that there isn't any blood. This photo was taken at just the right moment before blood came gushing out of that wound.

I usually don't give a shit about animal rights crap, but I have to say, matadors are the biggest pussies in the world.
