I just slammed my hand into my monitor trying to get the Nutella.

[–]Slatt 4 points5 points ago

When that didn't work, I scratched my monitor up really badly trying to break this unholy magic window keeping me from my Nutella!

Damn, we're being downvoted by people who think candy is a breakfast food. You wouldn't put chocolate syrup on toast, why would you put nutella on it?

[–]Milosmilk 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

True story, it's way to sweet to be breakfast food, it's practically candy. I usually stay away from the stuff.

[–]srd178 1 point2 points ago

I think he is referring to the perception that CT is full of all snoody white people. While there are many especially in Fairfield County; there is definitely a good share of rough neighborhoods and low income minority areas. Bridgeport, etc.

[–]meatfish 2 points3 points ago

[–]srd178 0 points1 point ago

I lived in Norwalk for a few years; agreed. But the wealth in some of the towns is jaw-dropping. While the poverty is on par with any standard American urban poverty.

I'm from East Hartford, CT, and... what? lol. This stereotype that everyone from Connecticut is a semi-wealthy upper middle class white person is just... amazing.

[–]bc2229 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

There's a lot of stereotypes for Connecticut, it seems. But the one that's overlooked for the "hurrdurr richpeople" and "durp no whitefolk in the cities" is how fucking backwater half the state really is. It's like Georgia. High minority and school populations in city areas... everything else is rednecks and mountain folk.

and none of them I've ever met eat this stuff

[–]MacDynamite 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

There are no mountains in Connecticut.

[–]bc2229 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Fair enough. The Berkshire foothills.

None the less, it did have it's own population of highland peoples, mostly very poor eastern European families that could tolerate the area and work the iron mines and furnaces. They populated the area around Mt. Riga mostly. The people in the towns, seeing their shabby clothes and fairly meager lifestyles, called them "Raggies".

To this day, it's still a derogatory term used heavily here.

[–]xitiomet 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I've only ever met like two rednecks in connecticut, and they were from the south. The most comon type of person you will meet in the less densely populated areas are cat ladies and people who love collecting soap for some unknown reason.

[–]bc2229 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I grew up in one of the more rural areas of CT. Yes. There are rednecks. John Deere merchandise wearing, Earhardt sticker on truck flaunting, carhartt jacketed, rebel flag painted on the hood rednecks. There's plenty of them here.

People forget that a lot of the area is still farmland and woods ಠ_ಠ

There's still a lot of country and farm up here. I grew up and went to school with some of the biggest rednecks I've still met in all my travels. They've led to good stories, now that I'm 30. But looking back at it, driving around in my buddy's lifted ford with a rebel flag hood through the north end of hartford makes me wonder how I'm still alive.

Though I guess that's slowly dying, too. Most kids don't stick around NW CT for very long, if they can help it. No more milkin' the cows or workin' the sandpits, etc. Get an education, GTFO.

[–]xitiomet 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I grew up in white hills, shelton. Mostly farming also, but the farmers never came across as rednecky to me. They were always friendly and open minded, no confederate flags or anything. Also they seemed pretty well educated.

I did have friends in high school that were all about the rebel flag, but to them it wasn't about racism. It seemed to be about shock value.

[–]bc2229 0 points1 point ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

This was mostly canaan/norfolk/Sharon/NW Hills areas. And no, it was never about racism, but shock value. This didn't make them any less redneck with everyone else driving lifted trucks, and all the other 'country boy' hobbies.

And just for the record, no one up here in the areas past torrington think Shelton to be "country" area(I know it is, but compared to Canaan, Sharon, Cornwall, etc... it's not). The people that were born/raised in those areas, where their families have roots, tend to be a bit different socially and politically from the rest of the state

It's a New Yorker thing. There are, in fact, a bunch of rich white people who live in southern Connecticut and commute to NYC. Personally, I would've liked some of that money when I lived in Storrs.

People not from the tri-state area don't actually realize how diverse of a place Connecticut is for how small of an area it is. It's not like the last few seasons I Love Lucy everywhere, people just don't seem to realize that. I'm pretty sure Bridgeport and New Haven are both somewhere in the top 10 or 15 in the nation for murder rates. And then you have Fairfield county, which is like the 6th or 7th richest in the nation.

[–]Ragnalypse 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Fact - if you are sober enough to type, you are not from Fairfield.

I think the Scottish have beat us too it:

I'm horrified after reading a press release from a hotel in Scotland that went public in announcing the fact that they're doing a deep-fried sandwich full of Nutella. I mean, Christ! 75% of my staff are French. They look at me like I'm some sort of twat that my Scottish brothers are launching two slices of bread with a fucking inch of Nutella between them, battered and deep fat fried. Now what the fuck is this country coming to? What are we doing to ourselves? That has to be abolished.

18, I actually think more younger people like it than older people. My photography teacher introduced the class to it and every single person (again except me) loved it. I honestly think it's eclipsing peanut butter, so I was confused when everyone was like "people in the US don't know what this is."

[–]alchemeron 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I honestly think it's eclipsing peanut butter

Don't be silly. The fact that you only found out about the product recently is a perfect example of how much less than popularity of the product is. It is simply not especially popular or known.

[–]ADDcigarettes 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I "found out about it" about 3 or 4 years ago. It's in every supermarket I go to, and most people I know use it in place of peanut butter.

Nyes a smart trap indeed... But you FAILED!

Let me explain why; someone forgot to tie a bit of string to the stick and connecting it to either the Nutella jar or towards their hiding place.

People, the trap is completely harmless, just don't touch the stick.

I'm from Connecticut and the state is full of Italians and Irish, who not that long ago were not considered white people.
