Ugh yes, and with those primitive controllers too. Christ it is almost as bad as the swimming level in Ninja Turtles. Which I actually broke a NES controller over.

Battle toads was super meat boy for the nes. After the speed bike level there was a normal level, then snakes, then I think a 2nd speed bike and 2nd snake level. The last tower level sucked also.

The worst part is after you actually do fucking beat it there's tons of impossible levels afterwards that will make you hate yourself even more.

Honestly, never had much of a problem with this level. The one where the ball chases you up the walls was much harder.

I remember owning a Nintendo Power magazine with like a whole 2 pages full of the map of THIS ONE LEVEL. God fucking dammit. Worst level ever.

That level was okay, it was the levels afterwards that were a bitch. The ice level.. awful. The level where you jump from snake to snake with spikes everywhere.

You have to rack up a million free lives on the speeder level and the bird punching level so you can possibly survive later.

A friend and I spent a whole weekend trying to beat Battletoads with 2 players, which is even more difficult than solo, if one person dies, both die.

We get to the 2nd to last level to realize that it was bugged, and in that level only the 1st players controls will work. The 2nd player gets immediately killed over and over until you run out of lives.

The later levels make this level seem easy in comparison. I can go back and get by this level every time no problem, the worst is yet to come.

But yes, this level made me rage when I first played it. One of the first games I owned, had to be about 8...wow, im old :(

The snes re-release was easier but that isn't saying much, I still got my arse kicked.

This level was definitely tough, though it was only a matter of time before you finished because you can memorize where the walls are coming from. It was also a bitch transitioning from island to island with the jumps. Sometimes if you aimed too low, you'd die for no reason.

It gets much harder after this level though :(

I have a nostalgic feeling for the NES games and having to play the first few levels or stages of every game over and over. I played A LOT of games for my NES, but only did i ever beat a game until i had a psx (it was ff7). At 6 years old, hearing someone say they finished a game was for me like a monumental achievement, something only grown ups with serious skills could ever do after years of practice. Me, i still liked knowing from memory the first 2 stages of Super Mario and taking the first warp zone to choose which other world will i die in. And i still had more fun than i do now with my wiiplayboxes. Not the games, but the time, man. That was the time.
