  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

    I know your pain. Though, having graduated and gotten away from the scene, I'd be interested to go back with a different perspective.

    Downtown is a beautiful place and this picture captures it well but it also grips me with the chilling memories of what happens in the town itself. You don't see the poverty or the violence or feel the eyes that watch you from the dark... but you know it's all there.

    Wow, you just made Savannah Georgia sound like a Frank Miller monologue. I lived there for 6 years. I've been chased by a bum with a knife and had to hit another with my skateboard to get away.

    Really, though? It's mostly a lack of common sense (or knowing any better) that gets people in trouble in Savannah. For example, cruising down past 37th and MLK with headphones, flip-flops and an oversized backpack full of art supplies and a macbook pro is a bad idea. Hell, living on Duffy is a bad idea.

    The only thing that really creeped me out there was how spotty the neighborhoods were. On one block, you're in a nice area—the next over, you're gonna get hassled.

    Grew up there. Lived on Gaston Ave for a couple of months. Had the strangest encounter with a "john". No, I was not a hooker. Just a kid who lived in a rough area sitting on my porch one night in the summer. Some guy drove up and pulled over. I thought he wanted directions! After a couple of minutes he worked up the courage to ask me how much. I sat there for a minute, stunned, and finally said " Dude! No... just no... go a block up, take a right, go two blocks, make a left. You'll find some one over by the Thunderbird" Went in the house, locked the doors and moved out a week later. Cheap rent wasn't worth it.

    I feel exactly the same. I just left in June and I remember it fondly, but I still have bitter memories of my friends being mugged... It's sad that such a beautiful place can have a dark side like that.

      to answer your question: i lived there for undergrad and grad school and i loved it. Savannah is a very beautiful city and it's fun to live in a different culture like the south for a while. people talk about crime in savannah but there will be crime in every city you ever go to. crime in savannah isn't any better or worse than anyplace else. maybe people get lulled into a false sense of security by the beauty of the downtown area. wandering around there can make you feel like you're in Pleasantville. Plus, 20 min from the beach isn't too hard to take.

      SCAD is a great school because they are an art school that teaches REAL WORLD skills. They teach you how to market yourself for a job, technical skills required for that job as well as critical thinking conceptual skills needed for the industry. they have amazing resources; computers, library, museums etc. they let you do double major, not all art schools will let you do that. I went to argentina and peru with scad. i met people on that trip that i am still friends with and it was one of the best trips of my life. probably the very best trip.

      SCAD hires professors that have worked in the industry. serious professionals that have Emmy awards and who have owned their own successful companies. The connections and advice of these teacher is incredibly valuable. 2 of the jobs i got after graduating were through the connections of my professors. in my industry SCAD is HIGHLY respected. when people find out that i went there they are always impressed.

          The rain falls thick on a tin roof, it's pounding racket joining in a chorus of soft piano chords and the soulful baritones of a saxophone. I grasp the ceramic cup in front of me with both hands, soaking it's heat into my clammy palms, before bringing it closer to my mouth. The thick aroma of black coffee fills the space between the cup and my mouth as I take a moment to pause and view the scene outside of my window.

          Streaks of blue and yellow dance on the ripples of a sidewalk submerged beneath half an inch of rain. The sky grows dark as the beverage that slithers down the back of my throat. The coffee leaves a harsh dryness that forces me to cough, but it's a small price to pay for the warmth it brings to my shaking bones.

          I can think of a few worse places to hide from the storm than a lonely cafe. Would I prefer a good book and a nice cup of tea at home? Maybe. Perhaps if given the opportunity I would have squandered it, sandwiched between a tall mound of blankets and a soft bed.

          Still, there are a few places worse to be in a storm like this than with a cup of coffee in a lonely cafe.

          What a small world we live in... I graduated from SCAD '08 for Visual Effects... It was there I created SimplyNoise

          The white / pink noise simulates a calm rainy mood, the brown noise is more like ocean waves / waterfalls.

          There's also a free 60 minute Thunderstorm Soundscape you can download that was created by Caroline Hernandez, a Sound Designer who ALSO graduated from SCAD.

              Ughhh that smell. On a flight back to Savannah, as the plane was about 5 minutes from landing, that horrible marsh stench filled the whole plane. You could hear a simultaneous "ewwww" from half of the passengers. Cannot for the life of me, get used to it.

                  When I was in high school, some jokers at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design...You can see their theatre in the background there.) pipe bombed their graduation two years in a row, prompting many of us to begin referring to them as SCUD (Savannah College of Urban Destruction).

                  Can't actually remember the name of that street...Broughton? Bay? I do remember that one day I walked down that street and there was a new Baby Gap in the place of some place that had sold those crazy hats old black ladies wear to church...I hadn't really understood what the word "gentrification" meant until then.
