Watch the story, Wishbone!

The Sherlock Holmes episode and the Rip Van Winkle episode will forever stick with me.

FTFY.

To me it will always be "Watch" on my childhood ears. It's like hearing a catchy song on the radio. It took me the longest time to figure out the actual lyrics of Renegades of Funk by RATM.

You are absolutely correct. But that's what it will always sound like to me because that's what I heard every time I saw the show as a kid. Don't know why you got downvoted, here's an upvote!

When I was about 12, my mom was training to be a police officer. She was gone for about 8 months. She came back home really late in the night after her training was done. She woke me up and gave me a wishbone stuffed animal. I still have it :)

If Bill Nye taught physics at my university, I'd be in those classes. Why can't we have high level education that doesn't induce snoring?

If I could have one wish today, it would be for the internet to gather the best teachers in the world and collect all their knowledge in video format to help people love learning.

Kids these days are growing up to Hannah Montana & Wizards of waverly place. Im glad I had wishbone, boy meets world, all that, recess, legends of the hidden temple, doug, hey arnold, alex mack, arthur, spongebob, etc.

My roomie's dog is named wishbone =]

[–]davisr 5 points6 points ago

I've had the same plan myself, but can't find them anywhere - how'd you do it?? Already have Magic School Bus, Bill Nye, Doug and Hey Arnold; Wishbone and The Kratt Brothers are the only missing links.

THE FUCKING MORLOCKS EPISODE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHH, still scares me shitless!

[–]flofatal 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Watched this show all the time as a kid. Might be a product of not having cable tv while growing up and all the the exotic channels like PBS were in the weirdo 20s, 30s, and 50s (as opposed to all the local channels on 2-13).

I always made references to this show to my girlfriend, but she never understood it cause she didn't know what the fuck Wishbone was. Maybe that's why she's not my girlfriend anymore. Bitches do not love Wishbone, apparently.

Back in 7th grade, teacher assigns us reading, going to be an essay test on it. I thought it was 'pick one of the three books to read, write one essay.'

Test day, turns out were supposed to have read all three books, and I didn't read the Scarlet Letter or The Count of Monte Cristo ...I did, however, see episodes of Wishbone covering both.

Get the tests back, A- on The Scarlett Letter, A on The Count of Monte Cristo, C on The Time Machine (which I had read.)

[–]Plutonium239Bitch 6 points7 points ago

Unfortunately, I was only allowed to watch a half-hour of TV a day as a kid, so I had to choose between Wishbone and Arthur. Wishbone won 99% of the time. I still have some of the episodes on VHS.

God, this makes me feel old.

[–]HazyCar 7 points8 points ago

I ran home after school every day just so I could make it back in time to watch both of them!

[–]zephyr1999 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It's such a shame. We had quality, entertaining television to enjoy when we grew up, with interesting plots and at least decent acting. But kids these days are stuck with shows consisting of writers who are crap, and actors that got their roles because of connections, not talent.

Exhibit A: The Suite Life of Zach and Cody. Exhibit B: Hannah Montana.

[–]zephyr1999 5 points6 points ago

I would agree, except that I still watch an episode of spongebob every now and then, and it's still quite good. Also, I notice (when I come home) the following situation:

My two much-younger sisters sitting in front of the TV with some moronic disney show on. Even when a poorly-delivered punchline occurs, and the laugh track plays (presumable to brainwash them) they don't laugh whatsoever, and usually don't smile. How anyone could watch something like this is beyond me, but they obviously don't find their current generation shows as hilarious as I thought my shows were.

[–]caitlincosmic 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Wishbone ran on PBS, not Disney. Two different channels with different shows and themes.

[–]zephyr1999 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

True, but they are comparable, because PBS had many popular kids shows in this time period, but now that audience has shifted to primarily disney and nick.

[–]lawfairy 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You watch it because of nostalgia. I'm 30 and I find Spongebob and Pokemon unbearable but love the Ninja Turtles. It's not because Ninja Turtles is objectively better, it's because Ninja Turtles triggers the "Happy Childhood Memories" section of my brain and Spongebob and Pokemon trigger the "you damn kids get the hell off my lawn" section of my brain.

[–]lordofthederps 1 point2 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Your sisters have to watch those shows in order to keep in touch with their current generation.

EDIT: Semi-relevant The Onion article.

[–]Randoming 8 points9 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You also need to take into account that Wishbone was a PBS show meant to be educational and Exhibit A and B are Disney shows.

[–]MAC_TRUCK_HITS_BABY 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Fuck that dude. I grew up in the 90's, and of course, through nostalgia, I think those shows were the fucking shit, but I think Phineas and Ferb and Adventure Time is the fucking shit. Additionally, Adult Swim is still doing swimmingly.

[–]TheHolls 2 points3 points ago

Wishbone will always hold a special place in my heart. The halloween one (I think that it was centered around Sleepy Hollow) was the first "chapter-book" that my parents bought for me :) They picked out a word for me to read- 'skeleton'- in order to make sure that I was ready for it. These books sure beat the hell out of Boxcar Children, not that I didn't enjoy me some of that every now and then.

Yes! Better yet, while working as an As't Propmaster on "Marmaduke", I used a little Wishbone stuffed toy as a dog stand-in. At wrap, I got Jackie Kaptan, our dog-wrangler & Wishbone's original trainer, to sign it. One of my favourite keepsakes.

This show was like cliff notes for 12 year old's. If success kid was around back then it would have def said "Teacher assigned a book for us to read, Wishbones doing that book today."

When I was a kid, I had a Wishbone stuffed animal that I took everywhere with me. When you squeezed his butt, his voice said "Don't go there!" I think he lives in the attic now.
